While my tastes lay decidedly to the metal side of the coin, there is one group that is most definitely not metal but will always lay claim to my allegiance. Twiztid, the horror-rap duo formerly of Insane Clown Posse's Psychopathic Records, is set to release a new album this coming January. The first song has been released and I have to say I like it. It is a little different, a little dark, pretty fresh, and most definitely Twiztid. I know some of you may not understand why I like these guys, but they are really good and have a way of twisting a phrase, turning a beat, and getting into your head.

Goblin Reborn with Goblin Rebirth – Signed to Relapse Records
Goblin is one of those bands whose music just sticks with you. They are primarily famous for their contributions to horror cinema, with their scores to films like Suspiria, Dawn of the Dead, and Deep Red. I absolutely love their music. I can listen to it over and over and not get bored. I was lucky enough to see a version of the band play live during their first ever tour of the United States, an absolutely transcendent performance in Philadelphia. Now, a new line up has signed with Relapse Records under the moniker Goblin Rebirth and we may soon get some new music and maybe some new versions of old material.

Belladonna and Anthrax: Together Again
This news makes me very happy. Blabbermouth is reporting that Joey Belladonna has rejoined Anthrax. The vocalist has officially joined his former and present mates and will be on stage with them during their upcoming European tour dates that will seem them on the road with Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer. Talk about a potent line up!

Tumbl'd Entertainment News for the Week of 2/19
Each week the entertainment world is flooded with news. Big news, little news, inconsequential news, and funny news. It flies around the web at breakneck pace and no matter wear you turn, no matter what entertainment site you go to, it all looks the same. Sure, the opinion may be different, but the core piece of information is the same.
Now, I would love to get in on the fun, but I barely have time to read it, much less write it. So, I try to do the next best thing, I send some of the more interesting (to me) stories out across the web on the Critical Outcast Tumblr blog and then, at the end of the week, gather them together and add some of my own thoughts. Hopefully, you will find this interesting, entertaining, and maybe even worthwhile!
The Last Airbender - Trailer
I am surprised by how good this looks. I am completely unfamiliar with the show, but must admit to being a little excited about the film. Could M. Night Shyamalan be back on track?
Riddick Sequel in the Works
It is official, there will be another Riddick film and both writer/director David Twohy (A Perfect Getaway) and Vin Diesel are back onboard. Talk is that the film will be more in the vein of Pitch Black than The Chronicles of Riddick. Whatever the case, I am in.
Zombieland the TV Show
Originally conceived as a television show, the show nver got off the ground and migrated to the big screen. Even while the sequel is being planned, in 3D no less, there are still ideas kicking to take the story to the small screen. Could be interesting. What do you think?
Roland Emmerich Developing Asimov's Foundation
This has me worried. I love the Foundation stories, but I worry what Emmerich may turn them into. I mean, he is known for the visual pyrotechnics but not so much for the story. If there is a series that needs a delicate touch, it is this one. I am hoping for the best while expecting the worst.
Season of the Witch (2010?) Pulled from the Schedule
Despite the advertising campaign that was already underway, the Nicolas Cage film has been pulled from the schedule and is now without a release date. The film set during the Crusades is one I was actually looking forward to. I wonder how long I will have to wait?
Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever - Bloody Clip
I cannot believe this will be good, but this clip looks like fun.
Suicide Girls Must Die - Trailer
I cannot say this looks like a good idea, but I do like the Suicide Girls! This is a horror film that s also a reality film with no script and the girls are not in on it. I am sure I'll see it at some point.
Gomorrah - "Excrement"
Latest video for the metal act. Not bad.
Gomorah from Scott Hansen on Vimeo.
Cyrus - Trailer
This is going to be fun. Jonah Hill and John C. Reilly in a battle of wits. Who will win?
Get Him to the Greek - Trailer
If one Jonah Hill film isn't enough, here is another. This time he is paired with Russell Brand in a spin off of Forgetting Sarah Marshall. So, we know Brand is the same character, is Hill the same character?
Defendor - Trailer
Woody Harrelson takes up the mantle of a superhero with the film's title. This looks good, but is it to close to Kick Ass?
ECW Shuts Down
For the second time the ECW brand is being shuttered. The first time was when they went under and WWE bought them and now as an extension of WWE. With it closing, a new reality show called NXT will take its place.
Chris Pine for Captain America?
Pines is the latest name to be mentioned in conjunction with the role. I say why not? I think he has the right look and could pull the role off. If Robert Downey Jr can be Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes, why cant Pine be Cap and Kirk?
Portnoy and Avenged Sevenfold
A7X was left devastated following the death of Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan in late December. The band is now getting ready to hit the studio and have asked Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy to sit in for the album sessions. This could be an interesting mix pending fulltime replacement. Portnoy is a very good drummer.
I Spit on Your Grave Could See the Big Screen
Anchor Bay picked up distribution rights for the remake of the 1978 film and have signaled intentions to release it on the big screen. I wonder how it is? I cannot imagine it will be as good as the Last House on the Left remake.
Carla Gugino Joins Faster
Following the departure of Salma Hayek from the Dwayne Johnson starring thriller questions arose as to who would step in. The question has been answered.
A Movie is Set to be Based on Erector Sets
What can be said? If this gets made it is bound to be disaster.
Tekken - Trailer
Can this be worse than Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li? The trailer looks downright awful.
The Wolfman is a New Moon Rip Off
Let's end the week with a little comedy, just check out the column. It says it better than I ever could.

SyFy to Air Merlin
Last Spring NBC aired the first season of the BBC Merlin series. The series focuses on Merlin as a teenager just learning about magic and his budding relationships with those of the Arthurian legend. It seems that SyFy has obtained the rights and will re-air the first season before moving forward with future seasons. I enjoy the show and look forward to the second season.
Blind Death - Trailer
This is a zombie movie from Chile. The trailer is more talk than anything else, but I am definitely interested. It centers on a mining accident and how the government blocked off the area and turned their back on the people there. Does not sound all that original, but I still want to see it.
Lost Really is Ending as Stars Look for Work
Daniel Dae Kim is lining up work now that Lost is finally going to become a closed chapter. It does look like he wants to stay in Hawaii, though. He is signing up for a role in the new remake of Hawaii Five-O. Not sure we need it, but sure, why not.
Ghostbusters 3D is Real and Bill Murray is Onboard!
This was one of the sticking points for the movie, whether or not its biggest star would appear in it. Well, he is appearing in it, but it is not without conditions. Those conditions are in the link, but I warn you it involves plot points, so if you don't want to be spoiled, don't click!
Saw VII Begins Principal Photography
Now this should be interesting. Kevin Greutert (Saw VI) is back in the director's chair despite his strong desire not to be there. He was forced back in at the last minute and tired to make changes to the script and improve it, but his team had very little time as the sets had already been built and the schedule already made. The 3D entry has begun shooting and it is just a matter of time to see how this turns out. I do not have much hope for it.
The Thing Sequel/Prequel Signs Cast Members
I am still not sure where this one fits with John Carpenter's film. I suspect it is a prequel set on the Norwegian base that originally encountered the alien. In any case, the project is moving forward and two cast members have been signed, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton. Hopefully this turns out well.
The Last Airbender - Trailer
This actually looks pretty good. Could this be M. Night Shyamalan's journey back? Could we be seeing him display the talent again that we know he has? I don't know, but one can hope.
Cop Out - Trailer
This new trailer for the Kevin Smith movie gets much closer to the heart of the matter without giving away the plot. This actually feels like a Smith movie whereas the first one did not at all. There is still hope!
Dave Ellefson Reunites with Megadeth
Back where he belongs, Dave has reunited with the band he helped found with Dave Mustaine. He joins drummer Shawn Drover and guitarist Chris Broderick as they prepare for the 20th Anniversary tour for Rust in Peace, the classic Megadeth album. I wish this tour was coming by me....
Clash of the Titans - Poster
This new poster reflects the last minute change for 3D as well as the pushed back (by one week) release date.

Rock on the Range 2010 Line-up Announced
Too bad this not within my travelo distance, the line-up looks great.
"...Godsmack, Rob Zombie, Limp Bizkit, Three Days Grace, Slash, Seether, Rise Against, Deftones, Papa Roach, Theory Of A Deadman, Mastodon, Killswitch Engage, Coheed & Cambria, Bullet for My Valentine, Puddle Of Mudd, Five Finger Death Punch, Apocalyptica, Drowning Pool, Halestorm, Sevendust, Skillet, Mushroomhead, Helmet, Airbourne, Anberlin, Cold, Nonpoint, 2Cents, Adelitas Way, Shaman’s Harvest, Year Long Disaster, Like A Storm, Taddy Porter, Janus, Columbus’ own Noise Auction and more."
Zombieland 2 in 3D... of course...
I am very glad to hear we will be taking another journey into the post-apocalyptic comedy land. This movie was a blast and I sincerely hope they can bring the magic again. 3D actually makes sense, so I am on board for that. Here is to hoping for the best!
Tom Cruise is Onboard for M:I 4
I really enjoyed the JJ Abrams directed third film. This one is set to be based on an original idea developed by Cruise and Abrams. Will Abrams direct again? I do not know, but I suspect he will at least be involved as a producer.
Christopher Nolan and Superman and Batman
Nolan certainly has his hands full working with Warner Brothers. After giving Batman an incredible makeover with a pair of films, he gave them first crack at his new film Inception, and now he is tapped to mentor a new Superman project while also getting a third Batman film underway. Frankly, I am very pleased with these developments. Aren't you?
The Hughes Brothers Lined up to Direct Akira
A live action Akira seems like a project doomed to fail. I have to admit that I am definitely curious to see if it can be pulled off. As for this news, I think these two could be the right ones for the job. The Book of Eli was a surprisingly good film that had surprising depth and a dynamic look. I think they could translate their style well to this project. Time will tell if it happens.
Turn the Beat Around - Trailer
Gloria Estefan biopic? Nope. Looks like another dance film and considerably more boring.
Killers - Tailer
Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl star in Knight & Day's little brother. It looks like fun, but forgettable.
Vacation Reboot?
The last time we saw the Griswolds it was an ill advised television sequel to the memorable Christmas Vacation. The last time we saw Chevy Chase in the role was the lackluster Vegas Vacation. Now we could be getting a reboot that plays more like a sequel. It will focus on a grown up Rusty taking his family on vacation. I don't know about you, but I'm down for a shot.
Get Ready for Titanic 2
Yes, you read that right. The delightful studio Asylum is planning in giving us a new journey of a new ship. Anyone want to predict how it ends?
Toy Story 3 - Teaser
I am really looking forward to this movie. Frankly, if it says Pixar I am there.

Upcoming Film Scores
Upcoming Film Scores has posted their list of 10 highly anticipated scores for 2009. The list looks pretty darn good. Although, all I really hope for is that it is more memorable than 2008. It is not that it was a bad year for scores, but I did not find many to be all that memorable. Of course, I just may not have been paying close enough attention.
The list contains some pretty exciting films that should provide some grand theatrical music, from James Horner's Avatar to Alan Silvestri's GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra to Danny Elfman's Wolfman (a film that was pushed from April to November).
However, my most highly anticipated score of their top ten is Michael Giacchino's Star Trek. I am very much looking forward to his take on the classic theme and where he takes it in JJ Abrams' revisionist take on the long running franchise. I have really enjoyed the work he has done for the likes of Lost, Alias, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and Mission:Impossible III.
Other scores I have hopes for include Steve Jablonsky for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, his score for the first film is fantastic, and Javier Navarrete for The New Daughter, a thriller with Kevin Costner from the writer of [rec]. I love Navarrete's work on Pan's Labyrinth, simply outstanding.
If nothing else, we should get some good music!

Dope to Release No Regret in March
Wow, I really did not think this band was still around. I am happy to discover they are. No Regret will be the band's first release since 2005's American Apathy. I love that album, the lyrics are not exactly deep, but if you want something that flat out rocks, it does the trick. The new album is set to land on March 10, 2009, so reports Blabbermouth.
It will be interesting to see how much the band has changed over the past few years, if at all. The band has gone through a number of line-up changes over the years. Since the last album, only two remain, Edsel Dope (of course), and guitarist Virus. To round out the lineup they have added Mudvayne's guitarist Greg Tribbett's younger brother Tripp on bass (formerly of Twisted Method), and ex-Genitorturer's drummer Angel Bartolotta.
While I would never consider Dope to be a great band, they have a lot to be admired. Edsel is a tireless promoter. He has kept the band going on the independent scene when their label deal went south. He has also done much to put tour packages together to keep them on the road doing their thing. If nothing else it is a success of personal drive.
I am looking forward to this album as well as the opportunity to see them live again. Their setlists may be a bit predictable, but the energy is first rate.

Gigantour 2009 Begins to Take Shape
Since 2005 Dave Mustaine has been putting together summer package tours with the express goal of delivering guitar driven metal to fans at a reasonable price. MTV's Headbanger's Blog has announced that the 2009 version of the tour is beginning to take shape.
The two bands just announced are Avenged Sevenfold and Bullet for My Valentine, just a little different from the 2008 edition that featured In Flames, Children of Bodom, Job For a Cowboy and High on Fire. It will be interesting to see fans reactions to these choices considering their popularity and lack of "edge." Both of these bands are quite good and do deliver some strong guitar work, but they are decidedly more mainstream than last years version.
Could it be a reaction to poor ticket sales the last time around? Possibly, when putting together a tour there has to be a profit to make the venture worthwhile. I would rather see a mix of mainstream and edgier fare if it means Mustaine can keep this package going. Hopefully it will be a mix and the bext couple of acts are on the more extreme side of the coin.

Academy Disqualifies The Dark Knight Score
Variety is reporting that excellent score for the incredible new Batman movie has been disqualified from Oscar contention. It is a decision that is way off base, in my opinion.
The reason for it's disqualification? Too many composers and not enough credited to the primary duo of Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard. You see, when the studio submits the score for consideration, it goes along with a listing of all the cues along with the composers name and length for each track. The Dark Knight score has a total of five names credited to pieces and this is apparently too much.
Frankly, I do not understand what the issue is. Does the Academy have something against collaboration? I can understand if not enough original material is written and outside music is used, but that is not the case here. All of the music was written for this film. Where is the problem?
The reasoning for the multitude of names is an honorable one. In an interview prior to the decision, Zimmer is quoted as saying that this was a way of financially rewarding other members of their team for their work and contributions to the score. Performing-rights societies like ASCAP and BMI use the cue sheet to distribute royalties to composers, so their inclusion will allow them to collect royalties on this music.
This situation just tells me that the Academy needs to seriously rethink some of their rules and regulations to ensure that they make sense because this does not.

This situation just tells me that the Academy needs to seriously rethink some of their rules and regulations to ensure that they make sense because this does not.

Chinese Democracy is Real?!?
Tell me if you believe this, November will see the release of a new Guns 'n Roses album. True or False. At the moment it is true, according to Blabbermouth.net. Not only that, the album will be a Best Buy exclusive.
This album has been rumored to be coming out for years, but it kept getting pushed back, and pushed back, and pushed back again. Honestly, I never thought this album was going to come. I remember when End of Days had a new GNR track during the end credits back in 1999. I remember being a little anxious to hear it, but then I did and it was not good at all. Then there was the MTV awards show where Jimmy Fallon introduced Axl and his current Guns line-up, and they didn't sound all that good then. Frankly, I lost interest in any new Guns material. All I need Appetite for Destruction, thank you very much.
Now November 23rd is the day when Chinese Democracy will hit stores. Before that date, you will be able to get a taste when a new song plays during the credits to Body of Lies. The song is called "If the World" and will not appear on the soundtrack album.
Well, here's hoping that the wait was worth it. I will be checking it out, but I cannot say I have high expectations.

Press Release: MOWER ANNOUNCES TOUR WITH TWIZTID
Mower has announced the dates for their upcoming tour with Twiztid. The
tour will kick off Nov 9 at The Real Bar in Phoenix, AZ and will end Dec
17 at The Engine Room in Houston, TX.
“We're pumped to be on a Psychopathic tour. We've done shows with
Twiztid and Blaze and ever since the word got out we were on this tour,
the Juggalos started contacting us online to say what's up,” says Mower
frontman Brian Sheerin. “They're all ready for the tour to start.
Juggalos don't f**k around, it’s summer and people are set to go off,
and so are we.”
The tour comes on the heels of back to back tours supporting (Hed).p.e,
and Kottonmouth Kings. The band’s video for “Road Rage” was also spun on
MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball and the album has also garnered a 2007 San Diego
Music Award nomination in the “Best Hard Rock” category.
"We want to get out there and see all of our friends. The last few Mower
tours hit a lot of the same areas, so we got to hang with the same cool
people and now it's time to go back out and see them again," says
Sheerin. This will be a great underground tour - the best kind of tour -
packed houses and energetic crowds. We're coming to throw down onstage
every night and then party and watch Twiztid do their thing. It's going
to be great."
Mower is touring in support of their recently released album “Not For
You” (Suburban Noize Records), which was produced by ex-Snot/Soulfly
guitarist Mikey Doling. Mower's new album “Not For You” has been
receiving rave reviews from fans and critics alike. Blabbermouth.net
called it, “Metallically tough, groove-oriented, sometimes punky, and
almost always catchy,” while Metal Edge Magazine said, “From the two
minute intensity of 'Road Rage' to the smooth cover of 'California
Dreaming,’ Not For You contains something for everybody."

Press Release: ZOMBI’s Steve Moore To Release Solo Album
Relapse will issue The Henge, the debut full-length solo album from ZOMBI’s Steve Moore, in late October. The Henge was self-recorded by Moore and advance track titles include: “Infinite Resignation”, “Dead Tide”, and “Cepheid”.
Moore describes The Henge and his approach; “This album represents a turning point in my writing - a subtle shift in direction that is only apparent when considering the album as a whole. While no track is too far removed from the harmonic language I create through my work with Zombi, this album gives me a chance to expand my tonal palette by experimenting with different instrumentations.”
“The album is meant to be viewed as a small step in a new direction, exploring some of the more ambient, drone-oriented ideas I've written over the last couple years.” Moore continues; “Although I always enjoy collaborative writing, the challenge of single-handedly developing an idea from conception to completion can sometimes be an even more rewarding experience.”
In addition to his works with ZOMBI, Moore has also recorded material with MICROWAVES and PANTHERS, as well as been involved in a number of scores for independent horror movies including ‘The Redsin Tower’ (collaboration with Scott Hull (of PIG DESTROYER, AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED), ‘Horror Business’, ‘Murder-Set-Pieces’ (as ZOMBI), ‘Home Sick’ (as ZOMBI) and more.
Audio samples of Moore’s solo work can be heard via his MySpace page www.MySpace.com/SteveMoore2600 and/or his newly designed website: www.StephenJamesMoore.com.

Press Release: NEW ALBUM AND TOUR ON THE HORIZON FOR PARKWAY DRIVE
Australia’s masters of metalcore, Parkway Drive will release their new album, Horizons, on October 9th and map out an international tour this fall. Produced by Killswitch Engage’s Adam Dutkiewicz (Underoath, Autumn to Ashes, Every Time I Die) and recorded at Zing Studios in Boston, Horizons awakens the inner-beast with an enthralling avalanche of sound. From grinding math riffs and palpitating blast beats to haunting death growls, Horizons’ brutal mix of metal and hardcore excels with songs such as “Carrion” and “Breaking Point,” which are enough to have anyone running for the circle pit.
"Horizons marks two years of refinement since our last release. The songs, the sounds, the speed, the heaviness and the production has all been stepped up,” says vocalist Winston McCall. “Working with Adam again made our job super easy as well as highly enjoyable. I think the end result is by far the best record we've made so far, but I guess that's always for others to judge.”
Currently leaving trails of bruised bodies in their wake as the cross the U.S. on the Van’s Warped Tour, Parkway Drive will christen their new album this fall with an Australian tour. Following their tour of OZ, the group will head to Europe in November with Comeback Kid, Cancer Bats, The Warriors and This is Hell.
Horizons Tracklisting:

SCUM OF THE EARTH SCHEDULE U.S. RELEASE DATE FOR NEW ALBUM ENTITLED SLEAZE FREAK
August 3, 2007 – SCUM OF THE EARTH, featuring former long-time Rob Zombie guitarist RIGGS just recently finished mixing their new album entitled SLEAZE FREAK (Eclipse Records), the band’s first studio album of all-new material since the critically-acclaimed debut Blah…Blah…Blah…Love Songs For The New Millennium released in 2004.
Delving deep into the psyche of the blood-spitting world-famous guitarist’s mind, SLEAZE FREAK will contain 13 brand new songs described by RIGGS as “heavy-as-hell grinding, stripper-rock”. “It’s a much more intense collection of material than Blah…Blah…Blah…” said RIGGS, “we did everything we wanted to do this time around, which allowed us to really embody the whole red-light-district sleazy vibe into the material.” In addition, MySpace Music icon Metal Sanaz makes her recording debut performing guest backing vocals on the track “Love Pig”.
SLEAZE FREAK is scheduled to be released nation-wide at retail stores throughout the US on October 9th 2007. The explicit (PA) version of the album will be available at most retailers containing an added DVD video. The DVD will consist of footage filmed while recording and mixing the album documenting the recording and mixing process and many hijinks of the band around town, in the studio, and on the road. There will also be a clean version for those accounts who are afraid of scary comic-monsters, offensive language, etc…
