A few weeks ago I saw a trailer for something called The Vatican Tapes. I had not heard of it before, but it looked like another found footage type movie. I filed the information away in the back if my brain and figured I would check it out if/when it came around. As luck would have it, the movie did come to the local multiplex, so off I went as a good little horror fan. Opening night, I sat in that theater with two other people. That was not a good sign. I mean, I know there was not a lot of advertising, but usually horror fans find out about these things and at least make some sort of showing. Anecdotal evidence, but I suspect the results were similar elsewhere.

Movie Review: The Last Exorcism Part II
Three years ago horror fans were treated to The Last Exorcism, another in a long line of exorcism themed films that. One that seemed predestined to join the long line of Exorcist wannabes. Surprisingly, the found footage exorcism flick won me over and proved to be a rather interesting look at a man going through a crisis of faith who was letting you in on the sham of exorcism, but still believing in helping people. It was pretty interesting, even up to the end that brought him face to face with a very real evil. Now we are presented with a sequel of a rather different vintage.

Movie Review: The Possession
I've said it before and I will likely say it again, The Exorcist ruined exorcism movies. This is not a wholly negative statement, but you have to admit, whenever you see an exorcism movie, you are comparing it to The Exorcist. It is just the way things are. When you have a movie that succeeds so well, is considered an all time great, and regularly tops scariest movie polls, it is hard to follow it up with something that feels fresh. Fortunately, or not, filmmakers continue to try and make new ones. They are no all terrible, but none of the, are The Exorcist either.
