In this young year, The Witch was one of my most anticipated films. I had friends who had seen it on the festival circuit and were raving about it. On top of that, the trailer looked utterly fascinating. So, as soon as the movie opened, I was there, sitting front and center, looking forward to what I was hoping would be greatness. Yes, there is always a gnawing feeling at the back of my mind that I am going to be let down, it has happened before and I am sure it is going to happen again. Fortunately, now is not that time. I found The Witch to be utterly engrossing, unnerving, and fascinating. I also recognized it as a movie that is sure to have as much hate tossed at it as love.

Movie Review: Necropolis (1987)
Love him or hate him, Charles Band has carved out a fascinating little niche in low budget filmmaking. You could probably look at him as a lower rent Roger Corman, maybe. While most people today are probably mostly familiar with his killer puppet output, be it Puppet Master, Demonic Toys, or even The Gingerdead Man, his history goes back way before that and his founding of Full Moon Pictures. He was also the head of companies like Empire Pictures and Wizard Video, where he was at the forefront of he burgeoning home video market through the late 70's and 80's. He helped guide such shlock as Necropolis to video stores all over.

Movie Review: Virgin Witch (1972)
The 1970's were a wild and crazy time for cult cinema. Previous hard and fast rules were being broken at every turn. Horror and erotic cinema were being combined in new ways. A good example would be from Hammer with their films like Twins of Evil and The Vampire Lovers. Then there is Virgin Witch. It is a movie that ignored all taboos in putting flesh on the screen, but it forgot to include any atmosphere and horror. The end result is a movie that is boring. It is more interested in clothing removal than it is being a movie. That isn't always a bad thing, but in this case it is.

Movie Review: The Lords of Salem
The Lords of Salem, where to begin. This movie, the fifth from Rob Zombie, sees him return to the land of original material for the first time since 2005's The Devil's Rejects. This is likely his most accomplished effort, and easily the most bizarre of his offerings. Still, in keeping with his previous output, it is surely going to divide audiences. Personally, I loved it, but I also enjoy his other films as well. Zombie is a creator with unique vision, whether you like it or not, at least he isn't out there regurgitating the same old thing.
