Single Minded: Trioscapes - "Blast Off" (Live)

Between the Buried and Me is a band that I have not really listened to all that much. I know I should, and I want to, it just hasn't happened yet. What does that have to do with Trioscapes? Well, it is the brain child of BTBAM's bass player, Dan Briggs. He got together with Walter Fancourt (saxophone) and Matt Lynch (drums) for what was supposed to be something of a one off project, but has seemingly turned into something more. Now, I have stumbled across them, more specifically I saw this live studio performance of the song "Blast Off" from the forthcoming album Separate Realities.

Music Review: Bloodiest - Descent

Upon first listen, Bloodiest is a band that defies explanation. At first glance they strike me as a sort of jam metal band like Mastodon crossed with the ambient metal of Neurosis. It is a sound that is not immediately accessible or even really likable. It is a sound that requires work and attention to truly enjoy and even then you may find that it is not for you. As I listen to Descent, I do not see it as an album that is going to have a very wide appeal.

DVD Review: Mogwai - Burning

Mogwai is a band I know very little about. Blasphemy right? I really don't, but I want to find out more. Honestly, I do. I guess it is a little strange to be starting with their first ever concert video, I understand that. However, if you stop and think about it, what better way is there to getting intimate with a band other than to witness them live? I know this isn't quite the same as actually seeing them in a concert but it does go a long way to showing one what the band is really like, how they flow, how they fit together, and how proficient they are at presenting their compositions. It is the live setting that will expose the act for what they are, a studio only band or one that can bring it to the stage in compelling fashion.

Music Review: Mike Patton - Mondo Cane

I have listened to this album a few times and have no idea where to start. Do you ever feel like that? It is not so much a matter of attempting to write a review, it can be as simple as just trying to figure out what it is supposed to be or looking to explain it to a friend. Mondo Cane is one of those albums that strikes me as being pretty far out there. However, it is a Mike Patton release so the far out there should be an assumed part of the equation. Even still, this is quite different than most of the other Patton work I have heard. If I had to recall anything even remotely in the ballpark it would have to be when Faith No More covered "Easy" by The Commodores. Even that isn't quite right.
