I admit that the current trend of YA novel adaptations has done little to capture my imagination. I think the Hunger Games has done a fine job at adapting the ideas and stories into the visual medium of the movies. This is not something that translates across the board. Frankly, many of the movies all look like the same thing to me. Anyway, I did go out and see The Giver, against my better judgment, and I was surprised to discover a movie with some interesting ideas. However, I was not surprised to find a boring and bland film. It is not something I can easily explain, but I will give it a little bit of a shot.

Movie Review: Snowpiercer
It was perhaps a month or two ago that a co-worker messaged me to suggest I see Snowpiercer. At that point I had never heard of it before. To be honest, I didn't really give it any mind at all, almost forgetting the message. In the time since I had been asked about a movie where everyone was stuck on a train, and The Host director's first English language film, as well as a new science fiction movie starring Chris Evans. At some point you would think I would have put all the pieces together, but oh no, not me. None of it would click until I saw Snowpiercer pop up on the movie theater's schedule. Then I couldn't wait for it.

Movie Review: Elysium (2013)
It has been four years since I first learned who Neil Blomkamp is. It was 2009 when District 9 arrived in theaters and proceeded to wow audiences all over, even earning four Oscar nominations (including Best Picture and Adapted Screenplay). Needless to say, I loved that movie and have been anxiously anticipating his follow up. It has finally arrived. The big question is whether or not it lives up to Blomkamp's prior outing. I will say I did have a few worries based on the trailer, so with cautious optimism, I eagerly entered the theater and experienced Elysium.
