Sci Fi Invasion: The Brother from Another Planet

Oh, you sneaky box set, you. It is a set that has so much filler in it that you wonder if having fifty movies was worth the ten bucks I spent. Movie after movie of wasted time. Bad directing, effects, stories, acting, so much boredom created, and so many sleepless nights instantly cured. It is no wonder that I begin to think it is nothing but filler. Fortunately there is the occasional ray of light. I have finally stumbled across one of those special moments that makes all the junk worth wading through. Now, it could just be that it is good only in comparison to what immediately preceded, but I suspect not.

Sci Fi Invasion: The Gypsy Moon

Sometimes I have to wonder what they were thinking with some of the choices for the Sci Fi Invasion box set. I mean, yes, I am expecting a lot of bad movies, but this is getting ridiculous. Of course, I realize they are padding out the movie total with whatever public domain titles they come across that could possibly be watchable. I am also beginning to see why I took such a long break from watching movies in this set. So many bad movies. So many movies that leave me with little to really say about them. This is a good example of a title that leaves me with few thoughts.

Sci Fi Invasion: Hundra

Sometimes I have to wonder what they were thinking with some of the choices for the Sci Fi Invasion box set. I mean, yes, I am expecting a lot of bad movies, but some of them barely qualify as science fiction. Of course, I realize they are padding put the movie total with whatever public domain titles they come across that could possibly be considered as part of the genre. For example, the last film, Hundra, is not a science fiction movie, but a sword and sandal Conan the Barbarian rip off.

Sci Fi Invasion: Rocket Attack USA

Sometimes I have to wonder what they were thinking with some of the choices for the Sci Fi Invasion box set. I mean, yes, I am expecting a lot of bad movies, but some of them barely qualify as science fiction. Of course, I realize they are padding put the movie total with whatever public domain titles they come across that could possibly be considered as part of the genre. For example, the last film, Trapped by Television, is not a science fiction movie, but the title and the act that there is a little technology involved puts it in line.

Sci Fi Invasion: The Creeping Terror

The Sci Fi Invasion box set is starting to pick up steam. Granted, it is just little puffs of barely seen steam, but it is more than it has been able to muster over a two film span yet. You would have to consider it a tough task to follow up the entertaining mash up oddity Future Hunters. Now, to be honest, the follow up feature is entertaining in a completely different fashion. With Future Hunters you have a movie purposefully made to be an weird stew of a movie, this feature, on the other hand, never had a chance.

Sci Fi Invasion: Future Hunters

When approaching a massive box set, like the Sci Fi Invasion set, you have to be prepared to sit through a large number of stinkers. Through the first few disks of the set I have sat through some movies I would not wish on my worst enemy. Why do I do it? Why should anyone do it? For the experience, of course. Every movie adds to the experience and you have to believe that something interesting is going to come along. Fortunately, I have stumbled across something interesting. Not good, mind you.

Sci Fi Invasion: It's Alive (1969)

I think it is a good thing that I stepped away from this Sci Fi Invasion box for awhile. There are just so many stinkers on here. It is something of a chore to sit through some of these movies. Still, I will soldier on and will eventually get through this set. There has to be a least a couple more watchable movies in there, right? This latest outing, a made for television movie from 1969, is not good and I feel bad for the poor souls who stumbled across it in the middle of the night so many years ago.

Sci-Fi Invasion: Welcome to Blood City

I will not quit on you, Sci-Fi Invasion box set. No matter what kind of lame, bizarre, and boring junk you throw at me, I will keep coming back until the last movie is done. It may take some time, but I will get through. I just have to look at each movie as an opportunity, a new experience, and hopefully I will walk away with something. Good or bad, every movie adds to your experience. I know its been awhile, but i am back. This latest experience was not bad. Of course, that is comparatively speaking and does not really say all that much.

Movie Review: The Alien Factor

I like to think that I am open to low budget, no budget, old, local, independent movies. I think I am generally fair when watching these movies, but man, I am being tested. Perhaps I am not as open as I thought I was. This Sci-Fi Invasion bosses challenge is truly testing me. There are a boatload of incredibly boring and bad movies here that I am struggling to get through. The latest movie is no exception. It is called The Alien Factor and is just really bad.

Movie Review: Invaders from Space

I will not quit on you, Sci-Fi Invasion box set. No matter what kind of lame, bizarre, and boring junk you throw at me, I will keep coming back until the last movie is done. It may take some time, but I will get through. I just have to look at each movie as an opportunity, a new experience, and hopefully I will walk away with something. Good or bad, every movie adds to your experience. This latest experience is pretty unique. I cannot truthfully say I completely disliked it, but I cannot exactly recommend it either.

Movie Review: Star Knight (El caballero del dragon)

Hey, Sci Fi Invasion challenge. You thought I forgot about you, didn't you? Nope, no such luck. Your plastic box housing untold hours of bad movies is still sitting there, teasing me. Well, here I am. I know it has been a little while since we have spent any quality time together. Heck, it's been a little while since I watched this movie, but I guess it doesn't really matter, it is not like the movie is any good anyway. I suspect this will not be a lengthy review, the movie doesn't really deserve it.

Movie Review: Extraterrestrial Visitors, aka Pod People

So, it seems that the ratio of watchable to awful films in this box set is 1 to 5. That means that after the watchable and modestly enjoyable Slipstream we were due to dive back into boredom. 1983's Extraterrestrial Visitors did not disappoint on the bad movie front. While not the worst I have experienced in this set, it is nowhere near good and nothing I would recommend you go out of your way for.

Movie Review:Slipstream (1989)

All right, now we're talking. Well, kinda sorta I guess. So many movies in this set have been utter snoopers that when you come across one of ever so slightly more questionable quality, it feels like you are watching Citizen Kane. Still, there has to be something to it other than just a better by comparison aspect. I don't know. I guess it really doesn't matter, if you are entertained, it is a worthy movie of watching. The movie in this case turns out to be Slipstream. I can tell by the looks on some of your faces that you are familiar with this little public domain gem.

Movie Review: Night Fright

Something that is becoming more and more apparent is that some of the reviews in this Sci Fi Invasion challenge are going to be pretty short. Some of these things just don't offer all that much to talk about, much less anything to want to talk about. This latest film, for instance, is a dull monster movie that just plods along and is stuck in time never to be shaken loose.

Movie Review: Top Line (1988)

My march through the Sci-Fi Invasion has slowed a touch. Yes, it has been a few days since I last visited the set, but rest assured, I am still aiming on completing the challenge, no matter how much of a chore it turns out to be. I am honestly still holding out hope that there are still some gems in there. Unfortunately, the latest film is not one of those hidden gems. It is a movie that if I were to recommend it, I would say to fast forward through the first 70-minutes and just watch the last third.

Movie Review: 984 - Prisoner of the Future

It has been a few movies since I hit the minor peak of the challenge with Hands of Steel a few days ago. Since then it has been a steady descent downward. Hopefully with this last film we have hot rock bottom and can begin to steady back off. I know that is rather unlikely with so many movies left on this set. I was sort of aware of the fact hat I would come across movies that would either leave me with little to say or a desire to not write about them. 984: Prisoner of the Future is one of those movies.

Movie Review: The War of the Robots (1978)

After that B-movie gem Hands of Steel, we are back into the slog of the Sci-Fi Invasion set. It turns out that movie was just a tease. I can only hope that I stumble across more movies like that, or better, along the way. There are still a lot of movies to go. The next movie to play is another Italian production, The War of the Robots. It is another goofy outing that makes little sense, but I guess it still has a little charm, albeit not much.

Movie Review: Hands of Steel (1986)

With disk one of the Sci-Fi Invasion box set complete, I have moved on to disk two. I approach it with a little trepidation as the first disk offering were, well, less than stellar. So, with the fifth movie watched in the set, I have finally found one worth watching, maybe even revisiting. Don't get me wrong, this is still squarely B grade material, so your personal enjoyment will definitely hinge on own ow much you like this sort of thing. The movie in question is Hands of Steel, aka Vendetta from the Future, aka Atomic Cyborg, aka Paco (yes, Paco).

Movie Review: The Eyes Behind the Stars

This Sci-Fi Invasion box set challenge is getting tougher by the moment. Four movies in and I kind of want to claw my eyes out, or at least take a nap. It is times like this where my enjoyment of B-cinema is seriously tested. This movie is called The Eyes Behind the Stars and it is a really good cure for insomnia, taking a couple of attempts to make through to the end. My first attempt ended with about a half hour to go when I thought I blinked and found myself staring at the disk's main menu, wondering what happened.
