Sound Byte: Eskimo Callboy - Crystals

Have you ever listened to an album and been utterly confused as what they were supposed to be or what they were trying to do, or simply just it was in general? Well, that just happened to me as I was listening to the album Crystals by a band called Eskimo Callboy. Granted, I was wondering “What?” just based on the band name. What does that even mean? I don’t know, I am not sure I want to know, and ultimately don’t think it really matters. The music, on the other hand, just leaves me shaking my head. I do not like it, but it is rather infectious.

Music Review: Dub Trio - IV

Let me be right up front with you about two things. The first is that I really don't know what "dub" means in relation to music, although I do know it is something more than just a part of the band's name. The second thing is that without even knowing what it is, I cannot say that dub music is my thing. Of course, my limited experience suggests that it is most commonly used in relation to reggae, rap, and house music, none of which are really in my wheelhouse. By know I am sure you are wondering just why in the world would I purposefully write about Dub Trio if it is something you know so little about? Here is the interesting thing, Dub Trio came to me under the guise of experimental metal. How very interesting.

Music Review: Mose Giganticus - Gift Horse

Gift HorseDiscovery of new music is an exciting thing. I don't care how you want to approach it, but hearing great music, or potentially great, from a band you have never listened to before is a beautiful experience. Music can be a transcendent experience. Music can transport you to other worlds and times, it can lift you to the heavens or pummel you into the dirt with is excellence. On the flip side, searching for good music can be like searching for the proverbial needle in the haystack.

Music Review: Thomas Giles - Pulse

Let's be right up front with this, this is not an album by an artist named Thomas Giles, oh no. Thomas Giles is a pseudonym/side project for Between the Buried and Me front man Tommy Rogers. That is a band that I have had limited experience with, but the little bit I have had the pleasure of listening to is pretty awesome. Now you can color me surprised putting that stuff up next to this. All of the music on Pulse is of a decidedly different nature than, say, the stuff on Colors. Despite some dramatic differences, you can tell they were both made (at least in part) by similar creative minds.
