Music Review: Dying Fetus - A Fistful of Re-issues

Killing on AdrenalineNo, the band has not released a new album called A Fistful of Re-issues. Although, I have to say that it sounds like a solid out of left field sort of title. No, this is just an overview review of a few remastered reissues that have come out from Relapse Records. They have dug into the past of Dying Fetus and remastered some of their out of print earlier releases. These include the EP Grotesque Impalement, a collection of early demo material Infatuation with Malevolence, and their first two full length albums Purification Through Violence and Killing on Adrenaline. Based on the album names alone, I have to think these guys are just a wee bit angry!

Music Review: Trap Them - Darker Handcraft

Twelve songs clocking in just over the 30-minute mark, Trap Them certainly know that it is better to get in and get out while the getting's good. Darker Handcraft, their third album, is concise, to the point, and poised to hand out a beat down. This music is in your face and wants to draw blood. Whether it is any good is a different case all together. You certainly can't take away their energy, aggression, or their ability to play as tightly as they do within the confined quarters of their sound, but I am not about to hand them the keys to my car. If you know what I mean.

Music Review: Kill the Client - Set for Extinction

The more I listen to what is called grindcore music, the more I realize it really isn't a sound for me. Well, at least no in the traditional sense. This realization was driven home during my recent listening to Phobia's latest release, Relentless. I cannot say that I really liked it at all. There are bands that I have seen referred to as grind that I have enjoyed, Pig Destroyer somewhat and Cephalic Carnage definitely. However, when I listen to someone like Phobia, I have to wonder if is something I really want to listen to. Curiouser, I have since decided to check in with another grindcore act, Kill the Client. Stranger still, I kind of like it.

Music Review: Phobia - Unrelenting

Where to begin. Just when you think you may be getting into it, it's over. Seriously. Unrelenting is exactly what its title says it is. Phobia is one of the fathers of grindcore, and this apparently shows them off doing what they do best. What is that, you ask? Grinding it out. They do not seem to care about what you think or what you want, this is about the abusing their instruments in fits and spurts of violent music.
