Music Review: Witchcraft - Witchcraft

I am not sure I adequately explain just what it is about this band that hypnotizes me. There are times when I put their discography on a loop and just let it play for hours. I am not always listening to it attentively, but the rhythm and groove is always there. The band was formed back in 2000 and released this self titled debut in 2004. As soon as you hot play and the titular track begins to play, you will transported away from the mundane, into a melding of past and present powered by fuzzy guitar grooves and soaring vocals.

Music Review: Mose Giganticus - Gift Horse

Gift HorseDiscovery of new music is an exciting thing. I don't care how you want to approach it, but hearing great music, or potentially great, from a band you have never listened to before is a beautiful experience. Music can be a transcendent experience. Music can transport you to other worlds and times, it can lift you to the heavens or pummel you into the dirt with is excellence. On the flip side, searching for good music can be like searching for the proverbial needle in the haystack.

Music Review: Electric Wizard - Black Masses

While looking up some information on this band one thing became plainly apparent. That thing is me not being familiar with the band while everyone seems to be calling them one of their favorites. It never ceases to amaze me just how much music is out there and how easy it is to have heard of someone else's favorite band. You almost have to be OCD about music to even come close to listening to a lot of different artists, no to mention the countless genres and sub-genres. It is a daunting task that I have chosen to not even engage in. I will take them as the come, if they strike my fancy, all the better. In the case of Electric Wizard, I doubt I will be call in them a favorite, but there is no denying they are pretty fascinating.

Music Review: The Georgian Skull - Mother Armageddon, Healing Apocalypse

Canadian act The Georgian Skull rose from the ashes of Mister Bones. Both acts feature front man All "The Yeti" Bones and until very recently I had never heard of either band. The Georgian Skull is certainly an dd choice for a band name, it's origin can be traced to an archaeological dig in the former Soviet state of Georgia. The site was home to a skull that is older than any humanoid found before and could throw what is understood about humanity's origins into question. Fascinating story. I wonder how the band came to us it as a band name.

Music Review: Bison b.c. - Dark Ages

I see an album titled Dark Ages and I cannot help but think of Soulfly. I see a band called Bison b.c. and I cannot help but think of Mastodon. In their own special ways, I can see a valid comparison of both of those bands to this one actually working. At the same time, however, Bison b.c. stand apart from them in the musical pantheon. Before pressing play my ears had never heard of this band before. This is their third career album and the second to be released through Metal Blade. After just a couple of songs I have a very strong feeling I am going to like this band.
