Movie Review: Specte

Few franchises can lay claim to more than fifty years of history and even fewer have twenty-four films under their belt. It wasn’t that long ago that I was talking about another franchise that got better with age, meaning the later sequels were actually better than the first few. Now, when it comes to James Bond, we have a whole new story to tell. When it comes to the best films in the franchise, you will likely get a mixture of old and new. Seriously, when I think about my favorites, titles such as From Russia with Love, Casino Royale (2006), Goldfinger, and Skyfall. Now, there is Spectre. I am not sure it will land in the top five, but it is certainly no slouch.

Blu-ray Review: The Zero Theorem

Terry Gilliam is an interesting filmmaker. I have not seen all of his films, fewer still on the big screen, but given the opportunity, you should check them out in any fashion that you can. His latest release is not is best, but it is still an entertaining excursion. It is called The Zero Theorem and it is rather fascinating. No matter whether you like it or not, you will have a reaction to it, even if your reaction does not reveal itself in logical fashion. With The Zero Theorem, Terry Gilliam has crafted a film that is as newly Gilliam as it is reminiscent of his past successes. To that end, I enjoyed this, even as I do not love it.

Movie Review: Big Eyes

I recall first seeing the trailer for Big Eyes and immediately being excited for it. First off, it has a cast of actors I like, led by Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz. Secondly it was directed by Tim Burton, one of my favorite directors. Beyond those facts, there was something else that lent me hope this would be a good film, that is it appeared the subject was something personal to Burton, it wasn't a remake of something else, which has made up the bulk of his output over the past decade or so. All of this combined to make this a must see, a hopeful film of quality for this fan.

Movie Review: The Zero Theorem

So, last week I had the opportunity to see Terry Gilliam's latest feature on the big screen. Before going any further, I have to recommend that whenever you have the opportunity to see a Gilliam feature in a theater, you should jump at it. Even when he is not at the top of his game, his films are pretty fascinating, either thematically or visually.
