Iron Man 2 tumbled from its top spot in its third week of release. It is not surprising considering the competition this week. It easily won its second weekend seeing as the competition came up little weak with Robin Hood. This weak the competition was a little bit stiffer as it introduces the family dollar to the equation. It proved to be a battle it was not up to wage. Of course, I do not believe there are many third week films that could face this particular fresh face.If you could not tell by now, Shrek Forever After won the weekend with its $71 million take. The fourth and final entry in the Shrek franchise enjoyd a solid open, although I can bet they expected that tally to be somewhat higher. I have not yet seen the movie and cannot comment on its success or lack thereof, but I can say that the third film was terrible and I can only hope this is a step in the right direction and does not completely sink the franchise. As it is, I cannot say the Shrek films are the ones I go to first with I want an animated flick to watch.
Iron Man 2 slipped to second, falling nearly approximately 50%. Still, that is nothing to sneeze at. It is having itself a solid run and would seem to be a lock to cross the triple century line. It is a very strong film that I recommend you get out and see if you haven't yet.
Moving down the list you will find last week's trio of Ridley Scott's Robin Hood, Letters to Juliet, and Just Wright before coming across this weekend's second wide release. The movie is MacGruber and it appears to be dead on arrival. It limped its way to the $4 million mark. I fgured it would do better but I am not surprised at the actual result, the SNL skit it is based n is pretty terrible.
The rest of the list is mainly last week's releases shifted down with the most notable entry being How to Train Your Dragon. The popular animated feature fell nearly 70% in the wake of Shrek's arrival. Rounding out the top ten is Kites, the Michael Bay produced drama.
Next week will see Jake Gyllenhall play action hero in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and the comedy sequel Sex and the City 2. Guess which one I am interested in?
Three movies dropped off the list this week: The Back Up Plan (11), Furry Vengeance (14), and Kick Ass (12), anf Clash of the Titans.

Odd weekend. I guess I should have known better. Shrek did not get anywhere close to my predictions. I am not sure why I pegged it to open so well, especially considering how bad the last one was. I guess I just overestimated to publics love and hunger for a fourth outing. I am also a little surprised by MacGuber. I did not think it would tank the way it did right out of the gate. It will likely still turn a profit, but it will take a little bit longer. The rest of the weekend seems to be about right, I should have realized that How to Train Your Dragon would be hard hit with the arrival of Shrek.
