2009 Golden Globes: Results Clip Show

The results are in and some of them are not all that pretty to me. There were a few that I was very happy to see win, while others made audibly yell at my television screen. I know that does not accomplish much and in the big picture awards shows like these do not mean much. However, I do still enjoy seeing personal favorites take home big prizes, it sort of validates my own feelings. Not that I need to be validated, but it does make me smile, if only a little.

So, without further adieu, let's take a look at some clips of the winners with minimal notes from yours truly. I will not be covering all of the winners, but msot will be here. I left off much of the television coverage because for as much television as I watch, the majority of those nominated I do not watch (usually because I do not have the premium nets on which they air).

Before moving on to all of the awards, here is a compilation of what were deemed the best moments by someone:


Steven Spielberg won the Cecil B. Demille lifetime achievement award and relates a wonderful story.


Best Motion Picture - Drama - Slumdog Millionaire
Notes: It is a great movie that is not topping my list, but comes pretty darn close. It is a movie that make me smile and makes me happy to see it doing well.


Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy - Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Notes: This one had me saying "Noooooo!" Darth Vader style. Not that it is a bad movie, but it is not all that good, my pick was In Bruges. I was also amused by how the producer almost forgot to thank Woody Allen, I mean without him this movie would not even exist.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama - Mickey Rourke for The Wrestler
Notes: I have not even seen the movie yet and I was cheering this victory. I think Rourke was snubbed for his performance in Sin City, and I have heard nothing but great things for his work here. On top of that, he gave one heck of an entertaining acceptance speech.


Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama - Kate Winslet for Revolutionary Road
Notes: With Winslet's penchant for being nominated and losing, I was not expecting this, especially with her already having won the Supporting Actress trophy. Her speech indicated she was surprised as well. I bet that she won due to Meryl Streep and Ann Hathaway splitting the vote.


Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy - Colin Farrell for In Bruges
Notes: I was secretly rooting for James Franco, despite me knowing there was no way he would win (not to mention I picture his role as more of a supporting one). I was happy to see Farrell win and give In Bruges some love, the movie is brilliant. It is also amusing considering the campaigning he was doing with co-star Brendan Gleeson on the red carpet.


Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy - Sally Hawkins for Happy-Go-Lucky
Notes: I have not seen this film, but have heard good things. I thought her speech was good, genuinely overcome with emotion.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture - Heath Ledger for The Dark Knight
Notes: Was there really any other choice? Even if he had not died, I am certain he would stilll have been showered with accolades. His performance just captivates the screen and showed the actor and the talent that was quickly becoming apparent. I thought the tribute clip was very nice.


Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture - Kate Winslet for The Reader
Notes: I have not seen the performance, but it is nice to see her actually win something. This despite my wanting Viola Davis to win.


Best Director - Motion Picture - Danny Boyle for Slumdog Millionaire
Notes: Boyle definitely turned in good work here, but I do not feel it was the best. I would have loved to have seen Christopher Nolan nominated here. Of the nominated, I would have taken Fincher.

Best Screenplay - Motion Picture - Slumdog Millionaire: Simon Beaufoy
Notes: It is good, but not the best. Of those nominated Doubt should have won. Burn After Reading and Gran Torino should have been nominated.

Best Original Score - Motion Picture - Slumdog Millionaire: A.R. Rahman
Notes: In lieu of The Dark Knight, this is a fantastic score and the one I wanted to see win.

Best Animated Film - WALL·E
Notes: Was there any other choice? Kung Fu Panda is definitely up there, but nothing even comes close to touching WALL-E.

Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy - 30 Rock
Notes: Easy choice, it is hard to top what may be the funniest show going. Plus, ain't Tracy Morgan a funny guy?


Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy - Alec Baldwin for 30 Rock
Notes: The same goes for the performances.


Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy - Tina Fey for 30 Rock
Notes: See above.


Enough with the awards. There were other entertaining clips not speech related.

How much did it cost to get these guys through the door? It isn't bad enough I was subjected to them during Holiday parades and New Year's Eve specials, they have to be at the Globes too? Enough is enough.


I love Amy Adams.
