This sounds like promising news. Variety is reporting that Sylvester Stallone is set to star in a new action film called The Expendables. Just on that line it does not sound promising, does it? Read on and find out why I am looking forward to this movie.
Not only is Sly going to star in the film, he also wrote the screenplay and will be directing. Ten years ago this would have been a cue to avoid this like the plague, but he has been having a career resurgence over the past few years. Just take a look at Rocky Balboa and Rambo and you have enough of a recent track record to make this a project to keep an eye on. Stallone is showing that he has what it takes to handle action and character with ease and skill.
But wait, it gets better.
Joining Stallone onscreen will be Jason Statham and, possibly, Jet Li. Statham is signed up while Li is still in negotiations. Three action heroes together under one title, sounds like a perfect mix to me! Of course, I was thinking the same thing when Statham and Li starred in War and look how that turned out. However, with Stallone at the helm, I have hopes for this.
The story follows a group of mercenaries into South America where they are to overthrow a ruthless dictator. Could this actually be a new Rambo movie with a fake title?
