WALL-E Making a Play for Best Picture

/film is reporting that Disney is going to make a push to get WALL-E a Best Picture Oscar nomination. This on top of its surefire Best Animated Feature nomination. At this stage of the game, I am all for getting it into the Best Picture mix, but have to wonder, like the guys at /film, if it could hurt it in the end.

If the Pixar film does get nominated in both categories, could it cause a split in the vote? Will voters be inclined to vote in both categories for the same film. This could end up backfiring and end up with WALL-E losing both prizes.

There has only been one animated film nominated for Best Picture, Beauty and the Beast. As good as that film is, I find WALL-E to be that much better and is more deserving of the honor. Opinion, to be sure, but that is where I stand. Now, whether or not the film could actually win Best Picture is up in the air, it currently stands as my second best of the year (behind The Dark Knight).

Whatever happens, I am looking forward to seeing how it plays out.
