New Movie Releases.

This week features a film that I have been looking forward to ever since I heard it was being made, and every commercial I see just gets me more excited. But I'm getting ahead of myself. One of them actually opened this past Wednesday, and there are two films featuring the same actress, and word has it she is excellent in both. On to the movies.

Beauty Shop. This opened on Wednesday, and seems to be getting decent reviews. It is a pseudo-spinoff from the Barbershop movies. It stars Queen Latifah as Gina, a stylist who quits her job working for Kevin Bacon and opens up her own place. If it is at the same level as the Ice Cube films, this could be pretty good.

Sin City. Here it is, the one we've all been waiting for! I cannot wait for this comic book come to life. the look is absolutely amazing. It was directed by Robert Rodriguez with help from Frank Miller, who created the original comics, and pal Quentin Tarantino. It is stacked with stars, and style, did I mention it has style? It tells three noirish tales with a single thread holding them together, so I've read. I can't wait....

The Upside of Anger. The first of two films opening with Joan Allen, and I hear it is very good. I am not sure exactly what the story is. I do know that it costars Kevin Costner as an aging baseball player, and Allen is a divorced or widowed mother. I may give this a shot to see if the performance is as good as I've heard.

Millions. Danny Boyle follows up his excellent revisionist zombie tale with a film more suited for a family. It is the story of two brothers who find a large sum of money, and argue about what to do with it. The younger brother feels it is to help the poor, and imagines speaking with saints regarding what to do, the older brother has other ideas. Meanwhile, the man who lost the money is looking for it. I have seen the trailer and it looks like a very good movie.

Off the Map. Here is the second film with Joan Allen. This one doesn't have as good a word around, except for Allen's performance. This one tells the story of a family that is more or less self sufficient and about to be audited. I think it looks good.
