So, the other day I had the opportunity to see an early screening of Midnight Special. I jumped at the chance, having been rather intrigued by the trailer. I was also intrigued to see what writer/director Jeff Nichols would do with a science fiction film, following a couple really good dramas in Mud and Take Shelter. Not to mention Michael Shannon is an excellent actor. On top of seeing the film, there was the added bonus of a Mondo 7” vinyl containing a couple of tracks from the soundtrack. So, how did it turn out? Well, good and bad, leaving the experience decidedly in the middle of the road with its ultimate fate yet to be decided.

Movie Review: The Night Before (2015)
I am not normally the kind of guy who likes Christmas movies before Thanksgiving, outside of the obvious year round exceptions (A Nightmare Before Christmas, Silent Night Deadly Night, Black Christmas, you get the idea). Still, sometimes theatrical release schedules make the decision for you when you start seeing them in any given year. This year The Night Before got me in front of a Yuletide themed film prior to turkey-day this year. And you know what? It was a blast. It is a buddy movie, a drug comedy, an awkward coming of age tale, and it is all wrapped up like A Christmas Carol. Yes, I liked it. Smart? Hardly, but certainly funny and surprisingly heartfelt.

Movie Review: Man of Steel
Well, it's been a few weeks since Man of Steel was unleashed upon theater screens. It took me a little while, longer than I normally like, but I have seen the movie. After seeing it I had some distinct feelings about it, not all positive, that left me wondering of I really wanted to right about it. You see, it is the sort of movie that has already been covered to death, analyzed to pieces, and praised/criticized to both ends of the spectrum. Do I really want to just be another voice shouting into the void? Not really, but hear I am.

Movie Review: Premium Rush
Premium Rush is a film bursting at the seams with kinetic energy. It is a non stop race through the streets of New York. It is a movie that takes the typical chase formula and does a little tweaking, making it feel fresh and exciting. In short, this is a better movie than it had any right to be. I went in hoping for a fun diversion and what I got was something more. I am not saying it is a great film, but there is enough quality that it cannot be ignored.
