Movie Review: The Equalizer 2

Four years ago, director Antoine Fuqua re-teamed with his Training Day star, Denzel Washington, to reinvent a 1980’s crime drama series as a big screen action thriller. That film was The Equalizer. That movie proved to be a hit, making more than $100 million at the box office. I liked it, I thought it could have been more, but there was something about how Denzel portrayed this character that I liked. I never thought it was going to be the sort of film that would get a sequel. Goes to show what I know, right? Anyway, the sequel is here and I went to see it, not expecting all that much. I am here now to tell you that this sequel surpasses the original by a long shot. This movie floored me and I can do nothing but recommend it.

Movie Review: The Equalizer (2014)

I have vague memories of The Equalizer television show, but I was more of a Knight Rider and The A-Team kind of guy, besides, I think I keep mixing it up with Spenser for Hire. I guess it really doesn't matter, at some point they will all be adapted to movies with current movie trends (I guess Spenser might be next?). Anyway, the movie take on the 1980's series has arrived with Denzel Washington stepping into the Edward Woodward role. It took theaters by storm in its opening weekend and seems to have been rather well received. Well, now having seen it myself, I enjoyed it but it is far from great. The Equalizer is entertainingly forgettable.

Movie Review: Flight (2012)

It's been twelve years since Robert Zemeckis directed a love action movie. In between 2000's Castaway and 2012's Flight, the Oscar-winning filmmaker has spent much time dabbling in motion capture animation, to varying degrees of success. In any case, he has made his live action return with a fine, if melodramatic, character study with one of the best in the game in the lead. It is true that Zemeckis and Denzel Washington make a potent duo, it is too bad the film wasn't just a little bit better.
