Single Minded: Bury Tomorrow - "Royal Blood"

Before listening to "Royal Blood," I had never heard of Bury Tomorrow. This is actually the second single off the forthcoming second album from this UK metalcore act. I have to admit, as much as I love the metalcore style, it is getting a bit long in the tooth as innovation has long since given way to generic copycatting. This single really isn't all that bad, but but that is merely because it starts off so well that I like it at all.

The song begins with a Meshuggah meets Parkway Drive vibe with its odd tempo and screaming vocals. It is getting a good off-kilter rhythm going but then it starts to fall apart around the :45 mark and then the guitarist provided clean vocals kick in at the 1:00 point and there is no looking back. We went from a potentially strong metalcore track into something that is a lot more familiar and a lot less inventive. It becomes boring and repetitive, offering nothing that we haven't seen or heard before. On top of that, the video plays up the usual teen angst line with a lonely kid screaming into the emptiness.

Been there, done that.

Check it out for yourself:
