Netflix'ns: Hard Revenge Milly - Bloody Battle

Netflix'ns is a series of review shorts of films, new and old, seen on Netflix, be it DVD or streaming. For better or worse, I sat through these films and have lived to tell the tale. These are not so much reviews as just comments on the film watched. Some will be first time views, others will be revisits. This is a work in progress.

This second film picks up two years after the events of Hard Revenge Milly. This time out the film is longer, the pacing is better and the action even more over the top. Throughout it all it maintains a more serious and somber tone than the majority of the Japanese New Gore Wave. This is not to say it is lesser or better than other outings, but this more serious tone helps it stand out from the crowd. And believe me, it is worth taking notice.

Milly has lost her sense of purpose following her revenge on Jack in the first film. She has continued killing looking to be bested, she has boarded herself up in an abandoned warehouse. She is visited by a young woman who wants her aid in getting revenge for the death of her boyfriend. So, following an early battle, Milly takes this newcomer under her wing.

However, they run across some really bad guys who are looking to have their own revenge for the death of Jack. This leaves much of Milly's mechanical gear (seen in the first film) damaged. She gets a tune up from the doctor and is back in action in no time. Everything leads up to an epic final battle sequence where secrets are revealed, blood is shed, and death is dealt.

Much like the first film the plot is simple and straightforward. Unlike the first this one has a little time to give us more interesting characters and better pacing, it works. The character of Milly is much more interesting this time around. She may be adept at killing, but there is a profound sadness that surrounds her, she is an epically tragic figure who is destined to never find solace.

I know, we aren't watching this for that. Fear not, the action is well choreographed and the blood is always in geyser form. This really is a lot of fun to watch and if you like action ad crazy blood, do yourself a favor and toss this in your Netflix queue.

I hope this isn't the last we see of Milly.
