The Losers
Last weekend saw How to Train Your Dragon continue to pack in audiences. I would like to see this continue for awhile longer as it really is a solid movie that is fun for the whole family. It narrowly lost out to Kick-Ass, a movie that is decidedly not for the whole family despite the loving father/daughter pair of Nicolas Cage and Chloe Grace Moretz. This weekend offers a few films targeting different demographics similar to last week's debut offerings. One movie looks to help warm up the action fan for the arrival of Iron Man 2 while another targets the dating crowd. Anything look good to you?
Oceans. (2010, 103 minutes, G, documentary) It seems to be a new tradition for Disney to release a documentary in conjunction with Earth Day. This year they take us into the waters that surround us to discover the wondrous creatures that exist in depths as well as the familiar critters that live around the surface. The trailer looks really good, although I am not sure how much I would learn compared with how nice the images look and well it is shot. Not sure I will actually make it in to see, but I would be interested to hear the thoughts of those who have.
The Back-Up Plan. (2010, 98 minutes, PG-13, romantic comedy) Sorry to anyone who is interested in this, I am not. It looks like a sitcom that has been stretched out into a movie. Maybe I am wrong, but I think I will take a pass on this. Jennifer Lopez (who was quite good way back in Out of Sight) stars as a woman tred of looking for the right guy and decides to start a family on her own. Problems arise when she has the appointment to become to attempt pregnancy and it works. Why problems? Well, she meets a guy played by Alex O'Loughlin who just may be that guy she was looking for. Try starting a relationship while hiding a pregnancy, think how easy that must be. Comedy ensues.
The Losers. (2010, 98 minutes, PG-13, action) I am looking forward to this one. I cannot believe it will be a great film, but I am a sucker for action films. This one plays out a little like The A-Team and I hope that doesn't hurt either film. It centers on an elite military group that is betrayed by the government and they, in turn, go on the run and turn their attentions on getting their lives back. The film is based on a comic book that originally appeared in the 1970s as a more traditional war story and was resurrected more recently as the group represented here. The cast looks good, including Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Idris Elba, Chris Evans, and Zoe Saldanna.

I suspect this will be a little on the low side of the box office coin. We are entering the last couple of weeks before blockbuster season begins on May 7th. That is not to say there is nothing to see, I just suspect people will be tightening up in expectation of the "big:" releases about to be trotted out for your consideration. So, with that in mind, here is my list of guesses with the lower dollar amounts. It will be interesting to see if I am anywhere close.
