Easter was owned by Clash of the Titans, which easily set a new record for the holiday weekend, easily besting prior record holder Scary Movie 4. Too bad it wasn't a terribly good film. It will be interesting to see how it holds up against this week's offering. It is interesting to note that there is only one wide release this weekend. The other two films are limited releases that are not likely to draw big audiences. What will you be seeing? Something new? Perhaps catch up on a missed film? Maybe even stay home and catch a DVD or Blu-ray?
Date Night. (2010, 88 minutes, PG-13, comedy) Tina Fey and Steve Carell. On paper that looks like a fantastic combination, take the leads of two of the top sitcoms and pair them up in a big screen comedy. The question now is if it will actually pay off. I have avoided most early word, sadly what I have heard has been less than stellar. Still, I am looking forward to seeing it. The comedic duo star as a suburban couple looking for a night out away from the kids to rekindle their relationship. What follows is an adventure in the big city as they suffer a case of mistaken identity and are targeted by a mob boss and corrupt cops. Mark Wahlberg co-stars for director Shawn Levy.
The Black Waters of Echo's Pond. (2010, 90 minutes, R, horror) I know very little about this film. I have seen the name pop up a few times but never paid it any mind. Now that I see it is coming to local theaters I feel the need to take a peek, especially since it is a horror movie and I like horror movies. I am looking forward to seeing this, but I cannot say it looks like anything all that special. The plot description reads like an evil version of Jumanji. Nine friends go on vacation to an old Victorian home where they find a game that brings out the worst in them, they are shown what the want to see despite that not always being true. The cast includes Robert Patrick and Danielle Harris.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. (2010, 146 minutes, NR, thriller) This thriller comes courtesy of Sweden and has already made enough of an impact since its home country release this past Fall that it is already being penciled in for a remake with a 2012 release date. The film is based on a novel by Stieg Larsson. This is the story of a man convinced the disappearance of his niece forty years earlier was a murder committed by one of his family members. A journalist and a computer hacker are hired to investigate and what they uncover is a dark family past that the family is intent to keep protected. It really looks quite good and it would seem to be a good idea to see it before a remake comes to pass.

Clash of the Titans may have dominated Easter, but I suspect it will have big drop off leaving the door open for Date Night to step in and take the crown. Maybe. The other two films coming to my town arenot likely to make a dent in the box office, so the rest of the list will be last weeks films shifted down a little bit.
