The Farrelly Brothers to Direct a Three Stooges Film

Here is a bit of news that I cannot say makes me very happy. MGM is moving forward with plans for a new Three Stooges film with the Farrelly Brothers at the helm. When I initially saw this report on ComingSoon.net all I could muster was: "Wow."

One of the Farrellys (unspecified) is quoted as saying: "Movie goers today deserve their own Stooges and we look forward to introducing them to a new generation of knuckleheads."

What exactly does that mean? Are they saying that no one can be introduced to the original Stooges anymore? The idea of making a film just seems like a bad idea. Seriously, the Three Stooges are not movie characters. They were a comedy team who made movies, much like Laurel and Hardy, The Marx Brothers, and Abbott and Costello.

The idea of casting Larry, Moe, and Curly (and perhaps Shemp and Curly Joe?) is a terrible idea. Again, they are not movie characters but a comedy team. I am not against remakes, but this idea I just cannot get behind. I am sure if it gets made I will check it out, but at this time I will not support it (for what that is worth).
