I have never read the book, but this is still exciting news. Neil Gaiman, the man behind the DC comic Sandman, as well as numerous graphic novels (with Stardust turned into an excellent and underrated film), and novels will be bringing another of his creations to the big screen. This news came from an interview conducted by Splash Page MTV.
The book tells the story of a boy named Bod who is normal in every way except that he lives in a graveyard and has been raised by ghosts after his parents are killed. He also has a caretaker who is neither living nor dead, and is faced with the dangers of a city populated with ghouls, a menace called Sleer, not to mention Jack, who killed Bod's parents.
Gaiman is working with special effects house Framestore (The Dark Knight), who wish to start producing their own films. He will also be on board as producer to help keep the film on track.
No other details are known at this early stage, but this project definitely sounds exciting. I am all for a world populated with all manner of ghousl. Perhaps it will be along the lines of Frighteners, only more serious?
