The Trailer Park: Slither

Have you been in the mood for an old school creature feature? Remember those old horror movies with swarms of spiders, or locusts, or ants, or some other insectoid menace? Well, it seems that those days may be returning.

Enter the world of Slither. It seems that a small town is under attack by hordes of slithering slugs. Now, these aren't your ordinary garden slugs. These things do stuff, and they're quick. The trailer puts the creepy crawlies front and center. Watch them chase people through the yard. Watch people scream in fear. Watch them splat like eggs on a windshield.

This movie looks like Z grade fun. From the way it starts, showing titles of classic horror films from the past thirty or so years, to the campy way the material is presented, this has goofy written all over it. It makes no attempts to be a part of the mainstream, nor does it present itself to be more than it is.

Slither seems to be on its way to becoming another cult classic. At least, that is what I get from the trailer. Now how the finished product turns out is another question altogether. A project like this is more apt to fall on its face than to soar with the camp classics of the past.

It was written and directed by the screenwriter of such classics as Dawn of the Dead (2004), Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, and Tromeo & Juliet. That man is James Gunn. As for the cast, it stars Serenity captain Nathan Fillion and Elizabeth Banks (The 40 Year Old Virgin).

Who knows how it will turn out? One thing is for sure, I will be there to find out. Too bad we have to wait until March 31,2006 to see it!
