The Trailer Park: Roll Bounce

Director Malcolm D. Lee is taking us back in time. He's already brought the past to the present when he directed Eddie Griffin the Austin Powers-esque Undercover Brother, which I found to be pretty funny. This time around we go back to the 1970's and the roller disco era.

Roller disco? I know, it's probably a time that many of you would not want to remember, let alone watch on the big screen. Despite that, the film actually looks like it could be a lot of fun, if not terribly original.

Take the colorful clothes of the day, some shows with wheels stuck to them, and a variety of racially divided dance teams and throw in a coming of age story. There's the movie, at least that's what I am getting from the teaser and full trailers. This does not look as if it aims to be some highly insightful character study of a young man growing up in a bygone era, but it does look to give a fun romp through said bygone era. Hopefully resulting in a fun time at the movies, with plenty of roller dancing.

Behind the camera, Lee is joined by Norman Vance Jr., who wrote the screenplay. He also wrote Beauty Shop earlier this year. On the business end of the camera are stars such as Bow Wow, Chi McBride, and Nick Cannon. It looks like it could be fun, here's hoping!

You can see the trailer HERE.

Roll Bounce opens in theaters on 9/23/05.
