DVD Pick of the Week: 9/13

This week's pick continues the trend of foreign titles controlling my pick of the week. There are a few good ones that could have taken top honors, but I have decided to go with a film which would likely be overlooked. This week's pick is Germany's Head On.

This film took me by surprise when I saw it in the theater earlier this year. I was completely unprepared for the raw intensity that was heart of this film. It is definitely worth spending the time with. It is one of the grittier romances I've ever seen.

It is the tale of a Turkish couple living in Germany. They met in a psychiatric hospital following their suicide attempts. They quickly have a marriage of convenience. From their the path is set for a downward spiral when fake feelings become all to real. A great film.

Also out this week:
  • Apocalyptica: Live. A cello playing quartet that specialize in covering metal acts such as Metallica, Pantera, and Sepultura. I would love to see them live.
  • Ben Hur: Four Disk Collector's Edition. I admit it, I've never seen this movie. That said, I can't pass this set up.
  • Cowboy Bebop: Remix 1. One of the all time greatest anime series with newly remastered audio and video, and a new set of extras. I can't wait.
  • Fever Pitch. A fun romantic comedy starring Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore.
  • Frankenstein. This was a TV movie with Vincent Perez and Parker Posey. Interesting take on the tale, would have made a good series.
  • The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Not as good as I had hoped for, but still has some funny segments.
  • Las Vegas: Season 2. One of my televised guilty pleasures.
  • One Missed Call. Takashi Miike strikes again. The plot seems played, and I haven't seen it yet, but Miike is a unique vision.

That's all for this week.
