The Trailer Park: Mirrormask

Wow. That is the first word that sprang to mind after seeing the trailer for Mirrormask. It is a mixture of live action and animation and is unlike anything I have seen. It appears to be a fantasy tale about a young girl who has a portal to a realm where her creations are real.

It is from the minds of Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean. I am not familiar with McKean's work, but Gaiman is masterful. I must admit it has been many, many years since I have come face to page with his work. I was most familiar with his Sandman writing for DC's Vertigo comics, and with the television mini-series Neverwhere.

After seeing this trailer, I am very much looking forward to catching this on the big screen. The tale, on the surface seems like many we have seen before, concerning a young girl in a fantasy land looking for the one artifact that can stop war and get her home. But in hands of Gaiman, and from what is witnessed in the trailer, this will be anything but typical. The effects look great, the designs are incredible. I just really hope it lives up to what I just witnessed.
