Emmy Nominations Are Here.

Today the 2004-2005 nominations have been announced. You can see the full list of nominees at www.Emmys.com. When the date draws closer I will have a full list of my predictions, but for know I would like to highlight some notable nominees, and possibly misses, and random notes.

First up, in Outstanding Animated Program (Less than one hour) Family Guy, of all shows, was nominated. I love this show and was upset when it was canceled the first time, who would have though that DVD sales would get it back on the air, much less nominated for an award! I am not sure what it's chances are up against previous winners like The Simpsons, and Samurai Jack. In the award for one hour or more we get Star Wars: The Clone Wars Vol. II, another very cool nomination, one which may have a chance of winning.

The whole Outstanding Art Direction for a Multi-Camera Series can go. I am not sure any of these shows deserve nominations. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy That 70's Show, but this was it's worst season yet. Then there's, George Lopez, Two and a Half Men, and Will & Grace? Come on, must not be many multi camera shows available.

Hell must be freezing over, American Idol is nominated for Outstanding Art Direction For A Variety, Music Program, Or Special. This show shouldn't even be on the air.

Outstanding Casting? Never heard of this category before, and there is one for Comedy and one for Drama. The good news in Comedy is that Scrubs is nominated, this show deserves so much more recognition than it gets. On the Drama side it is nice to see House and Lost in the mix.

Outstanding Cinematography for a Multi Camera Series? Cinematography is the last thing I think about with a bunch of sitcoms.

Now you can't have Outstanding Costumes for a Series without Alias, can you? Good news is that it is here.

Under Direction there are some good nominees, including an episode of Monk. On the drama sided there was the excellent Lost pilot, and the Quentin Tarantino episode of CSI. And let's not forget Rescue Me, another excellent addition from the summer cable seasons. Grrrr, another nomination for American Idol.

Now here is a nomination that got me very excited: Outstanding Special Visual Effects For A Miniseries, Movie Or A Special for Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars! This was a series that got canceled before it's time, and brought back for an excellent mini-series, I hope we get more in the future.

I'm going to skip down to the acting and top shows.

My mind has Lead Actor in a Comedy in a three way race between Zach Braff, Jason Bateman, and Tony Shalhoub. Three great actors on three great shows. On the Drama side the top nominees are Kiefer Sutherland and Hugh Laurie, neither has a chance because I like those shows.

As for Supporting actor, something tells me it is the year of Everybody Loves Raymond, but I would like to see Jeffrey Tambor take it. On the dramatic side you have William Shatner, yes you read that right, alongside a pair from Lost in Naveen Andrews and Terry O'Quinn. Sadly not in there this year is the excellent Victor Garber.

Lead actress will be someone from Desperate Housewives, who took 3 of the 5 spots. And another note Jane Kaczmarek doesn't deserve to be nominated, the show took a real dive this season in this man's opinion. In Drama the answer is simple, Jennifer Garner.

Supporting actress in Comedy, not much to choose from. In Drama, also not much to choose from. Well, not much that I care for anyway.

Best Comedy, they have both Scrubs and Arrested Development, which essentially cancels them out of the running. Although I love to finally see Scrubs get some notice on the award front.

Best Drama? Really a draw between Lost and 24. Lost had an amazing first season, and 24 had what could possibly have been it's best yet.

Anyway, be sure to check out all of the nominees, and keep an eye out for my predictions!
