Anthrax: Say no to Drugs!

This is a follow up to my post the other day regarding the Anthrax reunion, which you can read here.

As a reminder, the classic Anthrax lineup will be appearing on Sirius Hard Attack/27 this Friday, on April 1, 2005 at 2:00 PM ET/11:00 AM PT. If you have Sirius and plan on checking it out, please check back here and leave your thoughts.

This is more than just a reunion of the lineup that gave us that signature 'thrax sound of the 80's, there is a more serious reason for this gathering. They are teaming with the Slave to the Metal Foundation. They will be discussing a very serious matter, Project BioShield. Basically it allows US citizens, with the first line being our troops, to be injected with untested or approved vaccines, including one for anthrax, which I believe was a big reason for the band Anthrax to get involved.

Charlie Benante: "Every fan of Heavy Metal music has the chance right now to support our troops as Anthrax partners with Slave to the Metal Foundation to provide an opportunity for the most affected generation to make a difference and bring public awareness to the dangers of the Anthrax Vaccine."

Scott Ian: "Heavy Metal music was born out of non-conformity to socially accepted structure. Therefore our roots are seeded in the belief that we must challenge structure as it is based on past viewpoints imposed on the future. With respect to the Anthrax Vaccine it is our responsibility as 'keepers of the faith' of Heavy Metal music to stay true to core belief and challenge Project BioShield - a legislative act that authorizes the mandated use of untested and unproved vaccines on our soldiers making them in essence first line guinea pigs for the biopharmaceutical industry."

Joey Belladonna: "It has come to us from the most legitimate and politically correct activist circles that our head-banger support is sorely needed to make the public aware of these atrocities."

In addition to Anthrax, a film was made by a director named Scott Miller called Direct Order, which was narrated by Michael Douglas, to spotlight these vaccinations, I have only briefly perused Miller's site, but it has interviews with a group military personnel on their experiences. On a bigger front, always controversial Michale Moore is working on a film regarding the pharmaceutical industry. I am far from being a Moore fan, but he does a good job at raising questions that should be asked, just remember that he has his own agenda and will spin what you see.

A little more on the Slave to the Metal Foundation. In addition to the anthrax vaccine they have been attempting raise awareness regarding the misuse of heavy metals (no, not bad metal music). This would include the use of mercury in vaccinations and the dropping of depleted uranium munitions on the Middle East.

All of this is well and good, but what has me most excited is the potential future of this reunited Anthrax. I am a fan of theirs from way back, and would love to see this lineup return and deliver us some new music and tour. I have heard rumors that they will be on the next Ozzfest, which would be great. They have done a lot in their 20 plus year career. Grammy nominated, MTV VMA nominated, multiple platinum and gold records, not to mention touring all over the world. I just wonder where this leaves John Bush, who has placed his own stamp in his 10+ years with the group....
