New Releases for 11/5/04

This week brings us the latest among Pixar, plus few others which are bound to be slip off the radar in the wake of the CGI extravaganza.

The Incredibles. Pixar and Disney are unleashing their latest creation upon us. A new take on the superhero genre. It was written and directed by Brad Bird, who also brought us Iron Giant. It follows a family of superheroes who are retired and trying to live life with normal society. Of course this can't go easily, a new villain is on the loose and it is up the the Incredibles to come out of retirement to once again wage war on evil. This looks great, I've been looking forward to this for a long time.

Alfie. Jude Law starring as a ladies man in this remake of the 1966 film of the same name. Law steps into the shoes previously filled by Michael Caine. I am not terribly interested in this movie, but I have heard that Law is very good, so I may check it out for that. I know the tale is about a womanizer who learns a hard lesson through his actions. No, I haven't seen the original.

Being Julia. This opened in limited release a while back and is now making it to my area, which doesn't mean much, as I have no interest in seeing it. The story takes place in London of the 1930's, it follows an aging star who recognized her time is coming to an end and is looking for excitement, until what she finds crosses her. It has a good looking cast, but it doesn't look terribly interesting. The cast includes Annette Bening, Jeremy Irons, and Michael Gambon.
