The film is beautiful, well acted, well written. It has a quirky air to it that is unique and just draws you in. It was directed by Michel Gondry and written by Charlie Kaufman. They combine to bring us this romantic, comic, science fiction story of love and the struggle to hold on to it. I found myself loving this in a very similar way to Lost in Translation, and more recently Garden State. All of them are character driven pieces featuring fantastic relationships, yet all featuring different journeys. I can't recommend this movie enough, see it, but it, rent it, whatever, just see it.
Other possibilities include:
- Super Size Me. A close second for pick of the week and one of the best documentaries I've seen.
- Walking Tall. I enjoy the Rock as an actor, and this was a sort of entertaining piece of fluff, but the story could have used a bit more story.
- Thriller: A Cruel Picture. An influence on Tarantino's Kill Bill, I've been wanting to check out this small film from the 70's for awhile.
- The Alamo. Decent, notable for it's excellent performance by Billy Bob Thornton as Davey Crockett.
- Children of the Corn: Divimax. Anchor Bay gives this old King flick a restoration.
- Creepshow 2: Divimax. Same deal as Children of the Corn.
- Christine: Special Edition. John Carpenter's tale of a possessed care in a new SE.
- Easy Rider: 35th Anniversary Edition. Dennis Hopper's filmed rebellion.
- Club Dread: Unrated Edition. I enjoyed this in the theater, curious to see the additons.
- Star Trek: Generations: Special Edition. Delayed a few weeks back to a misprinted cover, now officially released.
- Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Volume 2. I enjoyed the first volume, I hope it keeps up.
- WWE: Eddie Guerrero - Cheating Death, Stealing Life . One of the best performers in the WWE gets his own set.
On the music front, only one title to interest me:
- Marilyn Manson: Lest We Forget. Collection of their greatest hits, plus a cover of Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus." Comes with a DVD.
