Horror Legacy: Freddy vs Jigsaw

During the build up to the last Monster Mania, I had a few conversations about Tobin Bell's legacy. This was not really a jab at Tobin Bell's ability, it came up when I had him on my “maybe” list for meeting at the convention. He was a maybe for me based on what I was assuming his cost was going to be versus what I felt it would be worth. It was an interesting conversation as we discussed the idea of autograph/meet and greet value to those who perceive the performer in different lights.

Movie Review: Freddy vs. Jason (2003)

So, with 2002's entertaining bomb of Jason X, one had to wonder when we would next see the hockey masked momma's boy and if it would a worthy addition to the franchise. Since Paramount ended their run with Jason Takes Manhattan we had to wait years between Jason appearances. One would think the character was dead. The same thing could be said for Freddy Krueger, who hadn't been seen on the big screen since 1994's Wes Craven's New Nightmare. It was like a dream come true, although it was not all that I had hoped it would be.

Netflix'ns: Eaten Alive

In 1974 a landmark film in horror history was released, that movie was The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, directed by Tobe Hooper and written by Kim Henkel. It is a movie that has stood the test of time and stands up as one of the scariest films ever made. It is one of those movies where everything works. The problem is how do you follow something like that up? Since filmmaking is a business and you are constantly being judged on your past work, it can be hard to love up to it. In any case, Hooper and Henkel reteamed for the 1977 film Eaten Alive, one of the legendary Video Nasties.

Blu-ray Review: Strippers vs. Werewolves

There are some movies whose titles tell you pretty much all you need to know about the story. This is one of those movies. The title Strippers vs Werewolves just about sums up what this movie is about. It is not trying to be clever, it is not trying to trick you into believing it is something that it is not. You see this title, you know what you are getting. Beyond that, the title indicates, at least to me, something cheesy and fun. Sadly, the movie I saw had the cheese but lacked the fun.
