Movie Review: The Rover (2014)

The Rover? What the hell is The Rover? It is one of those movies that pops up on the schedule for the local theater that you were not expecting. I suppose now, in retrospect, it is a movie I should have been aware of. In short, it is pretty spectacular. It is a movie that is fantastic in its complex simplicity. A movie that is not so much about the plot as it is about what happens in between the plot. A story that could have been completely avoided turns into an excursion that has a lasting effect on everyone involved. It is a movie that everyone should see, but is not really meant for everyone. If that makes sense.

Movie Review: Lawless (2012)

Lawless is a movie that, for some unknown reason, I kept mixing up with Gangster Squad. I don't know why, hey are clearly quite different movies. Whatever the case may be, Lawless is now in theaters and I should, theoretically be able to differentiate the two now. Lawless is a Depression-era movie that is based on the true story of a trio of bootlegging brothers, bucking Prohibition and making a boat load of cash in the process. It doesn't hurt they were located on the nation's wettest county where law enforcement was more than willing to help move the moonshine.
