Pick of the Week

This week took me awhile to decide what I should choose as my pick. I could take the easy route and choose Lord of the Rings: Return of the King: Extended Edition Gift Set (phew!), but that title is a given must have. Then I thought about the wonderful thriller Collateral, but again I chose no. Then there is I, Robot, well that was never actually in contension. I decided to travel overseas to pick a title.

This week's pick is Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. Any fan of the big green guy will probably want to pick up this title, and I haven't even seen it yet! I grew up loving those Godzilla movies, watching them on lazy Saturday afternoons. I recently started getting into them again as Columbia/Tristar has been releasing some nice versions of the more recent titles. A new age began for Godzilla back in 2000 when Toho revived the king of the kaiju in Godzilla 2000, since then a string of entertaining Godzilla movies have been produced, with my possible favorite being, get ready it's a long title, Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monster All Out Attack (or GMK for short). There is also Godzilla vs Megaguirus and Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla. Each of these films was stand alone, only connecting to the original 1954 film. This one, Tokyo SOS, is a sequel to Mechagodzilla, and I have heard only good things about it.

And to top it off, it is in it's original aspect ratio and has the original Japanese language track!

Also coming out this week:
  • Lord of the Rings: Return of the King: Extended Edition Gift Set. With 50 minutes added in, you can see what was cut and have a month long LOTR marathon with the other extended sets!
  • Collateral. This is an absolutely wonderful performance with an eye-opening star turn from Jamie Foxx.
  • I, Robot. Not great, but this is a fun little diversion,
  • The Door in the Floor. I've heard good things about this drama.
  • Mary Poppins: SE. I have heard this is a great set, I haven't watched this film in ages.
  • Son of Godzilla. C/TS continues giving us the classic G-man.
  • Top Gun: SE. The Tom Cruise vehicle gets the proper DVD treatment, finally.
  • Requiem for the Darkness Volume 2. The second volume of this dark anime series has revealed itself.
  • Family Guy: Freakin' Sweet Collection. A set of the creator's five favorite episodes with new commentaries. It shall be mine.
