Emmy Awards: Predictions

Somehow, I had forgotten that tomorrow night the Emmy's are being awarded. Not sure how this slipped off my radar. Anyway, below is a copy of the list that Emmys.com provides for fun and ballot pools, for each one I have selected my choice for the winner, along with my comments. For entertainment purposes only as my predictions tend to be very different from what gets chosen.

Outstanding Directing For A Comedy Series

  • 􀀁 Curb Your Enthusiasm • The 5 Wood
  • 􀀁 Curb Your Enthusiasm • The Car Pool Lane
  • 􀀁 Curb Your Enthusiasm • The Survivor
  • 􀀁 Sex And The City • An American Girl In Paris (Part Deux)
  • Winner: Arrested Development. This is a fantastic show, one of the funniest currently on air. Curb is very funny as well, but I haven't seen any from this season, and I never watched much of Sex and the City. Where's Scrubs?

Outstanding Directing For A Drama Series

  • 􀀁 ER • The Lost • NBC
  • 􀀁 Nip/Tuck • Pilot
  • 􀀁 The Sopranos • Irregular Around The Margins
  • 􀀁 The Sopranos • Long Term Parking
  • Winner. Deadwood, this is a shot in the dark, I don't care for Nip/Tuck, ER hasn't seemed terribly award worthy of late, and Sopranos, I haven't seen much.

Outstanding Directing For A Variety, Music Or Comedy Program

  • 􀀁 The 76th Annual Academy
  • 􀀁 Bill Maher: Victory Begins At Home
  • 􀀁 Chappelle’s Show
  • 􀀁 The Daily Show With Jon Stewart
  • 􀀁 Elaine Stritch: At Liberty
  • 􀀁 Late Show With David Letterman
  • Winner. Chappelle's Show, simply one of the funniest shows on TV.

Outstanding Directing For A Miniseries, Movie Or A Dramatic Special

  • 􀀁 Angels In America
  • 􀀁 Ike: Countdown To D-Day
  • 􀀁 The Lion In Winter
  • 􀀁 Prime Suspect 6: The Last Witness (Masterpiece Theatre)
  • 􀀁 Something The Lord Made
  • Winner. Angels In America I have seen none of these, but Angels interests me the most.

Outstanding Directing for Nonfiction Programming

  • 􀀁 American Masters • Judy Garland: By Myself
  • 􀀁 Born Rich
  • 􀀁 Jockey
  • 􀀁 Queer Eye For The Straight Guy
  • 􀀁 Tupperware (American Experience)
  • Winner. I have no idea, I'll say Queer Eye For The Straight Guy even though I can't stand the show.

Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series

  • 􀀁 Curb Your Enthusiasm • Larry David as Himself
  • 􀀁 8 Simple Rules • John Ritter as Paul Hennessy
  • 􀀁 Frasier • Kelsey Grammer as Frasier Crane
  • 􀀁 Friends • Matt LeBlanc as Joey Tribbiani
  • 􀀁 Monk • Tony Shalhoub as Adrian Monk
  • Winner. This is tough, I'll pick Tony Shalhoub as he is just masterful as Monk, although Matt LeBlanc is a close second, Joey is a great creation. Where's Scrubs?

Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series

  • 􀀁 The Practice • James Spader as Alan Shore
  • 􀀁 The Sopranos • James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano
  • 􀀁 24 • Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer
  • 􀀁 The West Wing • Martin Sheen as President Josiah Bartlet
  • 􀀁 Without A Trace • Anthony LaPaglia as Jack Malone
  • Winner. Kiefer Sutherland, not the best season of 24, but Kiefer is always on top of his game.

Outstanding Lead Actor In A Miniseries Or A Movie

  • 􀀁 And Starring Pancho Villa As Himself • Antonio Banderas as Pancho Villa
  • 􀀁 Angels In America • Al Pacino as Roy Cohn
  • 􀀁 The Reagans • James Brolin as Ronald Reagan
  • 􀀁 Something The Lord Made • Alan Rickman as Alfred Blalock
  • 􀀁 Something The Lord Made • Mos Def as Vivien Thomas
  • Winner. Al Pacino, he is always great.

Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series

  • 􀀁 Everybody Loves Raymond • Patricia Heaton as Debra Barone
  • 􀀁 Friends • Jennifer Aniston as Rachel Karen Green
  • 􀀁 Life With Bonnie • Bonnie Hunt as Bonnie Malloy
  • 􀀁 Malcolm In The Middle • Jane Kaczmarek as Lois
  • 􀀁 Sex And The City • Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw
  • Winner. Jennifer Aniston, you just have to love Rachel. Although, I wouldn't mind Jane Kaczmarek getting some recognition.

Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series

  • 􀀁 Alias • Jennifer Garner as Sydney Bristow
  • 􀀁 Joan Of Arcadia • Amber Tamblyn as Joan Girardi
  • 􀀁 Law & Order: Special Victims Unit • Mariska Hargitay as Detective Olivia Benson
  • 􀀁 The Sopranos • Edie Falco as Carmela Soprano
  • 􀀁 The West Wing • Allison Janney as C.J. Cregg
  • Winner. This easy, Jennifer Garner, ALias is one of the best shows on TV. Amber Tamblyn is a close second, Joan of Arcadia is refreshing quality television that the whole family can watch.

Outstanding Lead Actress In A Miniseries Or A Movie

  • 􀀁 Angels In America • Meryl Streep as Hannah Pitt, The Rabbi, Ethel Rosenberg & Continental Principality

  • 􀀁 Prime Suspect 6: The Last Witness (Masterpiece Theatre) • Helen Mirren as Jane Tennison
  • 􀀁 The Reagans • Judy Davis as Nancy Reagan
  • Winner. Glenn Close, another shot in the dark.

Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series

  • Winner. Jeffrey Tambor, hilarious as the imprisoned patriarch. Where's Scrubs?

Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series

  • 􀀁 Deadwood • Brad Dourif as Doc Cochran
  • 􀀁 The Sopranos • Michael Imperioli as Christopher Moltisanti
  • 􀀁 The Sopranos • Steve Buscemi as Tony Blundetto
  • 􀀁 The West Wing • John Spencer as Leo McGarry
  • Winner. Victor Garber, again great4 acting on a great show.

Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Miniseries Or A Movie

  • 􀀁 Angels In America • Patrick Wilson as Joe Pitt
  • 􀀁 Angels In America • Justin Kirk as Prior Walter & Man in Park
  • 􀀁 Angels In America • Ben Shenkman as Louis Ironson & Continental Principality
  • 􀀁 Angels In America • Jeffrey Wright as Belize, Mr. Lies & Continental Principality
  • 􀀁 Stealing Sinatra • William H. Macy as John Irwin
  • Winner. William H Macy, everything he does is solid.

Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series

  • 􀀁 Everybody Loves Raymond • Doris Roberts as Marie Barone
  • 􀀁 Sex And The City • Kim Cattrall as Samantha Jones
  • 􀀁 Sex And The City • Kristin Davis as Charlotte York
  • 􀀁 Sex And The City • Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes
  • 􀀁 Will & Grace • Megan Mullally as Karen
  • Winner. Not much to choose from, I'll go with the goofiuly funny Megan Mullally. Where's Scrubs?

Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series

  • 􀀁 Judging Amy • Tyne Daly as Maxine Gray
  • 􀀁 The Sopranos • Drea de Matteo as Adriana La Cerva

  • Winner. Again, not much to choose from, I'll pick Drea de Matteo.

  • Winner. Arrested Development, one of the top sitcoms on TV. Where's SCRUBS!!!

Outstanding Drama Series

  • 􀀁 The Sopranos
  • 􀀁 24
  • 􀀁 The West Wing
  • Winner. Joan of Arcadia, solid debut year, CSI was OK, 24 had it's worst season so far(still better than most).
