Trailer Park: Paddington 2

Three years ago a live action adaptation of Paddington Bear reached the big screen, and despite a rather rocky ad campaign, it became a modest success and, as it turns out, it was enough to spawn a sequel. I remember those early commercials and trailers and how they focused on the stupid and the slapstick. I remember actually dreading sitting through it. Fortunately, the movie turned out to be really good and really sweet and just what family entertainment needed. Now, here I am hoping that this second go around delivers the goods and lives up to its predecessor. Get ready for Paddington 2.

Trailer Park: The Commuter

It is amazing to see how an actor seems to completely reinvent themselves. Liam Neeson, I always looked at as that respectable drama actor type, but then something changed. Liam became the ultimate cinematic badass, the likes we haven’t seen since Charles Bronson’s heyday. Well, that may take it a bit too far, Neeson is no Bronson, but there is no denying the string of action/thrillers that he has put out over the past decade or so and the entertainment they have delivered. Yes, the Taken films have run out of steam, but now we have another Taken-style thriller. Will it deliver the goods? One can hope.

Trailer Park:Proud Mary

I know a lot of people who just don’t care for modern movies. I can understand the frustration that comes from, but I like to think a good number of movies have some sort of positive element to them. This lets me have the feeling of excitement while watching trailers and coming across one for a project I was completely unfamiliar with. There is nothing quite like sitting in that theater and seeing something that makes you sit up and pay attention. Proud Mary is one of those trailers that made my take notice, make me really look forward to seeing it.

Trailer Park: Blumhouse's Truth or Dare?

So, I was at the movies to see the latest Insidious installment. Why? I like the series that’s why. Anyway, I was watching the trailers, and, as expected, a mainstream horror film was preceded by a succession of other mainstream horror fare. Granted, there is not much to like about mainstream horror, but occasionally you find stuff that works (ahem, Insidious, cough), well one of the trailers caught my eye and not really for the right reason. It looked a lot like everything else, which isn’t good, it also reminded me of another horror franchise that I have some affection for, but still there was something about it.

Trailer Park: Victor Crowley - Teaser

Ten years ago Adam Green introduced us to little fella named Victor Crowley. Seeking to give the world a new slasher icon, he enlisted Jason Voorhees veteran Kane Hodder to play the role of Crowley in the movie Hatchet. The slasher went on to feature in three films, none of which garnered any respect from the MPAA. I believe it was the second entry that opened in theaters and got pulled out by midweek. It is a shame, I would have loved to see any of them on the big screen. The series was not universally loved (what is?) but I know I quite liked it. Here we are, years since we thought the Hatchet universe was finished, learning that a fourth film has been made, yes made, and is going on tour this October. Count me in.

Trailer Park: Inside (2017) - Trailer 1

There was a string of films to come out of France that sought to redefine brutality, intensity, and terror. These movies included High Tension, Frontier(s), Sheitan, and Martyrs. Each one was more intense than the one that preceded it. It was almost as if each successive filmmaker was attempting to outdo the one that came immediately before it. I am not sure if this trend continues but Martyrs was the epitome of the cycle that I saw, although there was one that I may have liked better. That movie was À l'intérieur (aka Inside). Of course, these movies would be targeted for an American remake. The trailer for Inside has arrived.

Trailer Park: Leatherface (2017) - Trailer 2

We are faced with yet another Texas Chainsaw Massacre film, and another prequel to boot! It is always very iffy to make a prequel to a classic film. We are always curious as to a cinematic maniac’s origin, but to actually make such a film is to risk damaging any idea we have in our mind. It takes away the creative license of each and every viewer. Beyond that, we run the risk of getting a bad film. Will that be the case here? I am not sure, but the fact that it is going to DiecTV before going to theaters (limited) does not inspire much hope. Sure, it could be good movie, but it is a long shot.

Trailer Park: Jigsaw - Trailer 1

So, this is not exactly new news, but by know, I am sure you are aware of the impending return of the Saw franchise. Right? I guess we should be thankful for the fact it is not a reboot or a remake or some manner of reimagining. It looks like we are getting a legitimate sequel. Of course, your mileage may vary based on how you feel about the series in the first place. Frankly, I am left somewhere in the middle on the whole thing as my enjoyment of the series has gone up and down over the years. Even not having watched them in a few years I find myself on the fandom fence.

Trailer Park: Death Wish (2017) - Trailer 1

So, it has finally arrived. The first trailer for the Death Wish remake has arrived. When I first heard about it I thought, like I do about a lot of projects, I’ll believe it when I see it. It had been announced that Eli Roth would be directing and that Bruce Willis would be stepping into Charles Bronson’s legendary shoes. These announcements only enhanced the I’ll believe it when I see it feeling. Of course, there are those who decried the idea of a remake and others who seemed more than willing to give it a shot. Well, it is real, it is coming. What do you think?

Trailer Alert: Batman v Superman - Dawn of Justice..... who turned out the lights?

One day after a bad bootleg video began circulating, Warner Brothers has released the official high definition version of the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It was a few days before the expected date of 4/20, but I guess they would get ahead of the boot and just get the real thing floating around. Why not? It's just a couple of days and it is promotional material as it is. I guess the question really is whether or not it is any good. The answer is are sounding, it looks interesting.

Trailer Alert: Star Wars - The Force Awakens is Love

I am pretty sure you are already tired of all the Star Wars stuff since the release of the new The Force Awakens teaser the other day, so, feel free to pass on this as it is not going to be objective and it is not going to be overly analytical. So what is this about? Well, it is just a moment for me to gush about the beauty of this teaser, the affect it had on me and my anticipation level. If you feel like that is up your alley, read on, otherwise, stick around and check out some of my reviews.

Trailer Alert: Fantastic Four (2015)

So, the trailer for the Fantastic Four reboot has arrived and it looks like the title is going to be Fant4stic. Well, at least for the trailer, hopefully it will be written in a more traditional fashion when the movie comes out. Not unlike the recent Taken sequel, the trailer proclaimed it Tak3n, while the movie itself was officially Taken 3. I know, I am spending too much time on this, I just don't care much for the number/letter mix. The only one I think I can stomach is Se7en. Anyway, the trailer is here and now the speculations can begin in earnest.

Trailer Alert: Alone

Something that you may now know about me is that I enjoy Bollywood films. I do not go out of my way for them, but when the local theater gets them, I try to go and see them. They will never be my favorite type of film, but it is interesting to see different ideas on how to make a movie and what should be in them (not to mention how long they should average). Now, the one thing I have not yet seen is a Bollywood horror film. Well, there was Go Goa Gone, which was amazing, but that was more horror/comedy and seemed targeted to a Western audience. Now there is this trailer for Alone.

Trailer Alert: Mad Max - Fury Road

Oh man. Oh man. Oh boy. This. Looks. Amazing. Now, one can only hope that it lives up to the promise of this trailer. Still, by the looks of it, Max is back and is going to be a force to be reckoned with. It certainly looks like Warner Brothers is behind it and it will hopefully get the push it seems to deserve and launch a new series of post-apocalyptic action. Seriously. The originals (well, the first two, with some lesser love for the third) are absolute classics that epitomize what a car movie can be. This one certainly looks to live up to the standards.

Trailer Alert: Terminator - Genisys

Terminator has had quite a history. There was the classic original film from 1984 that introduced us to this frightening world, not unlike a slasher tale. Then there is the the 1991 sequel that took everything to the next level. Since then it has been something of a mixed bag. Terminator 3 was entertaining, but does not stand up to the first two. There was a television series which was getting pretty good when it was canceled. Finally there was the fourth film which had some interesting stuff but was really not so good. Now, they are trying to reboot the series with Terminator: Genisys.

Trailer Alert: Man with the Iron Fists - Sting of the Scorpion

Wow. I cannot say I ever expected to see this appear, but I am happy to see it, although it does not look to be as much fun as the first. Man with the Iron Fists was a lot of fun and despite being a dud at the box office has apparently found its fan base. It was a movie the was directed by, written by, and starring RZA, who clearly did his martial arts homework with how everything was depicted (the guy knows his kung fu movies). This second film RZA on the screen and as co-writer, directing duties have been handed to Roel Reine (Death Race 2/3, 12 Rounds 2).

Trailer Alert: Star Wars - The Force Awakens

Unless you've been living under a rock, you know that the trailer for the new Stars Wars movie was released today. Heck, it's even made the news. While I would have loved to have been surprised by its appearance in a theater, I easily broke down and watched it onlne. I love Star Wars, always have and always will. Yes, the prequels are not great cinema, but they all have aspects I love. With that said, as this trailer played, I could not happen but giddily smile with excitement. Now I just have to wait a year to see the movie.

Trailer: 12 Monkeys the TV Series

I am a big fan of Terry Gilliam's film 12 Monkeys. It is an amazing vision and one of the best time travel films I have seen. The idea that it was going to be turned into a series gave me pause, but it also intrigued me. It is a concept that could make a really good series and I am really looking forward to seeing if they are able to pull it off. Below is the series trailer.

Movie Trailer: Bad Words - Red Band

Well, doesn't this look like a slice of inappropriate fun? Jason Bateman takes to the director's chair and directs himself in this comedy about a grown man in kids spelling bees and a new friend that he makes. I'd be lying if the trailer didn't make me laugh. This red-band trailer for Bad Words is NSFW:

Movie Trailer: Knights of Badassdom

You know, I had completely forgotten about this movie. I remember seeing the trailer a long time ago and being pretty excited for it. It is a story of LARPers who get sucked into the real thing. It is hard not to like a movie that features Steve Zahn, Peter Dinklage, and Summer Glau. Happy to see it is finally going to see the light of day and sad it is not getting a big theatrical release.
