Movie Review: Get a Job

Have you heard of a movie called Get a Job? No? Until recently my answer was the same thing. It is a movie that was made a few years ago but was then relegated to the shelf until they could figure out what to do with it. You would think that a movie that has cast including Anna Kendrick, Bryan Cranston, Miles Teller, Allison Brie, Marcia Gay Harden, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and John C. McGinley, would be an easy sell. The problem is that if the movie is not all that good, it doesn’t matter how good the cast is, it can be a tough sell. Of course it doesn’t help that one of the stars has said she didn’t think it would ever be released.

Movie Review: Fantastic Four (2015)

Well, the opening weekend of the Fantastic Four debacle is now in the rear view mirror. After a little (very little) reflection, I decided I should probably put down a few words before the screening gets too far into the past. Now, I did not like the movie, but I also do not completely hate it. That is to say it is not the worst movie I have seen this year (The Upper Footage), nor is it the worst I have seen theatrically this year (The Gallows). It strikes me as a movie that suffers from studio interference and seriously troubled production. Honestly, when I first saw the teaser I felt some hope. Oh well.

Trailer Alert: Fantastic Four (2015)

So, the trailer for the Fantastic Four reboot has arrived and it looks like the title is going to be Fant4stic. Well, at least for the trailer, hopefully it will be written in a more traditional fashion when the movie comes out. Not unlike the recent Taken sequel, the trailer proclaimed it Tak3n, while the movie itself was officially Taken 3. I know, I am spending too much time on this, I just don't care much for the number/letter mix. The only one I think I can stomach is Se7en. Anyway, the trailer is here and now the speculations can begin in earnest.

Movie Review: Whiplash (2014)

When it first arrived I really had no interest in seeing Whiplash. It was a movie that never popped up on my radar and based on what little I had seen about it, was not all that interesting. Then, for some reason, the title kept popping up and folks who had seen it, kept singing its praises, and then came the award nominations. Now, my interest was growing a little bit. I still wasn't really convinced, but it began playing at the local second run theater, I had some time to kill, so I decided to give it a shot. I needn't have had concerns. While it is not a great film, it is really very good.
