Critical Capsule: Justice League

Justice league, what else is left to be said? Probably nothing. I did enjoy the film, but I did not love. I felt that Steppenwolf was a weak villain and the plot felt like a mash of Avengers and Lord of the Rings. A lot of the comedic moments fell flat, especially when they were centered on Batman; however, Flash was pretty fantastic. I thought most of the heroes were handled well, Wonder Woman continues to shine and Cyborg was a lot better than I was expecting. I would :d[ watch this one again and feel it currently is the second best of the DCEU, behind Wonder Woman. I do feel this universe has been rushed but there is always time to save, unlike Universal’s Dark Universe debacle.

Movie Review: Batman v Superman - Dawn of Justice

I sit here contemplating if I should bother writing about this movie. There is both good and bad to the movie, but no real effect to be done by my words. Besides, I have seen what it has turned my Facebook feed into. It is at a level of disharmony that I thought was reserved for political discussion, which I generally try to avoid (generally). On top of that, there has already been so much written about the film that anything I saw would disappear into the echo chamber (pretty much like everything else I write). Not to mention the cyclical, few times a year, backlash against critics, including a crazy claim of writers being paid off for bad reviews. Ridiculous.

Movie Review: The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015)

If you are looking for someone writing about how this modern cinematic reboot of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. relates to the original 1960's series, you've come to the wrong place. Frankly, the only thing I know about the original is the title, that it was an east meets west spy series, and it starred Robert Vaughn and David McCallum. I am also fairly certain the two relate in only the broadest of terms. With that being said, this new take is actually better than I was expecting. It is not a great film, mind you, but it is a fun stylish modern take on an old formula. Simply put, this was an entertaining two hours in a movie theater.

Movie Review: Man of Steel

Well, it's been a few weeks since Man of Steel was unleashed upon theater screens. It took me a little while, longer than I normally like, but I have seen the movie. After seeing it I had some distinct feelings about it, not all positive, that left me wondering of I really wanted to right about it. You see, it is the sort of movie that has already been covered to death, analyzed to pieces, and praised/criticized to both ends of the spectrum. Do I really want to just be another voice shouting into the void? Not really, but hear I am.

Movie Review: The Cold Light of Day (2012)

Some movies are meant to be seen on the big screen, but for whatever reason never make it there. There are also movies that seem to end up on the big screen by default when they have no right being there. I am sure sure that many of you can think of movies on both sides of the equation. In my experience this happens with horror a lot, think of movies like Creature and The Collector making the big screen while movies like Trick 'r Treat don't. I boggles the mind. The Mabrouck El Mechri directed thriller, The Cold Light of Day, probably shouldn't have seen said light of day.
