Movie Review: Virgin Witch (1972)

The 1970's were a wild and crazy time for cult cinema. Previous hard and fast rules were being broken at every turn. Horror and erotic cinema were being combined in new ways. A good example would be from Hammer with their films like Twins of Evil and The Vampire Lovers. Then there is Virgin Witch. It is a movie that ignored all taboos in putting flesh on the screen, but it forgot to include any atmosphere and horror. The end result is a movie that is boring. It is more interested in clothing removal than it is being a movie. That isn't always a bad thing, but in this case it is.

Horror-A-Day: The Expelled

The frost is back. I am not sure I like getting ice on my skull while walking from the front door to the car. See? It's happening already, I went from complaining about the lack of brisk air to complaining about that persistent chill. Granted, by midday it is still a bit more temperate, the complaint stands. I am so glad that horror films will always be waiting to welcome me no matter how cold it is or how bad the day has gone. There is nothing like finishing the day with a little bit of terror. Right?

Horror-A-Day: Salvage (2009)

This morning didn't have a frost like the past few days have had, but there was still a crisp coldness that dug into my scalp when I stepped outside. It was the sort of chill that kinda gathers at the back of your neck and drives to the bone. Well, maybe not quite that dramatic, but it could certainly be liked to the feeling when a good horror movie injects a decent creep factor. Not all horror movies set out to creep, or get under the skin, some just want to toss blood at you, and others want you to believe it could happen.

Horror-A-Day: Killer's Moon

The Halloween march moves forward. Each day brings with it another movie, picked in the moment, and so far picked rather well. So far all of them have been new to me and more of them have been good than not. It is also showing me that there are plenty of movies from the 70's and 80's that I have yet to see. There is always a waiting list looking to fester in front of my eyeballs. Now we have a grey, somewhat overcast day masquerading as fall weather, and a movie masquerading as something else to match.

Horror-A-Day: House of Whipcord

As October continues being unseasonably warm, my remote is still able to find movies I have not seen before indoors, where I can ignore the non-Fall like weather. The more I watch, the more there are to see. This time my remote came to land on a movie called House of Whipcord. It is a 1974 Britsploitation movie by Pete Walker and is one of those movies I wish I was pointed towards earlier. Of course, I am fortunate hat movies like his are popping up on Netflix. I also encourage anyone into grimy 70's exploitation, definitely check this one out.

Blu-ray Review: Strippers vs. Werewolves

There are some movies whose titles tell you pretty much all you need to know about the story. This is one of those movies. The title Strippers vs Werewolves just about sums up what this movie is about. It is not trying to be clever, it is not trying to trick you into believing it is something that it is not. You see this title, you know what you are getting. Beyond that, the title indicates, at least to me, something cheesy and fun. Sadly, the movie I saw had the cheese but lacked the fun.
