Movie Review: Death Force aka Vengeance is Mine

Death Force is one of those movies that you are really likely to stumble across on the shelves of a brick and mortar store like Best Buy or Target. It is one of those types of movies that seems destined to be forgotten, and for a the majority, it likely is forgotten, along with so many others. This is why we should be thankful for companies like Vinegar Syndrome who go out of their way to not only obtain the rights to films like this, but to go through restorations from the best elements they are able to find. The results here are quite good. The film does show its age and some of the scratches and marks may have been printed in the source. Still, any complaints are minor next to the solid and uncut presentation.

Screening Report: Hudson Horror Invades the Alamo III (Alamo Drafthouse, 9/19/15)

If you did not know, the Hudson Horror Show is a pretty big deal. You go somewhere and mention them, people know what you are talking about, their eyes light up with excitement. There is a growing camaraderie amongst the horror marathon that is amazing. Go to these shows and you instantly become a member of the family. Anyway, this past weekend the Hudson Horror crew spearheaded their third invasion of the Alamo Drafthouse, and it was a sold out affair. This double feature played to a lively crowd and went over extraordinarily well.

Movie Review: The Five Deadly Venoms

I am far from an authority on old school kung fu movies (well, add in new school kung fu and movies in general), but I know when I see something I like. So, I felt like watching some martial arts and I wanted to be something a little to the old/classic side. This led me to my Blu-ray copy of The Five Deadly Venoms. Now, if you like martial arts, your face probably lit up at that title. If you didn't, you just don't know and you owe it to yourself to get yourself a copy, maybe some beer and pizza, and make a might of it. It is one of those movies that is just truly worth spending a couple of hours with.

Horror-A-Day: Killer's Moon

The Halloween march moves forward. Each day brings with it another movie, picked in the moment, and so far picked rather well. So far all of them have been new to me and more of them have been good than not. It is also showing me that there are plenty of movies from the 70's and 80's that I have yet to see. There is always a waiting list looking to fester in front of my eyeballs. Now we have a grey, somewhat overcast day masquerading as fall weather, and a movie masquerading as something else to match.

Movie Review: The Alien Factor

I like to think that I am open to low budget, no budget, old, local, independent movies. I think I am generally fair when watching these movies, but man, I am being tested. Perhaps I am not as open as I thought I was. This Sci-Fi Invasion bosses challenge is truly testing me. There are a boatload of incredibly boring and bad movies here that I am struggling to get through. The latest movie is no exception. It is called The Alien Factor and is just really bad.

Movie Review: The War of the Robots (1978)

After that B-movie gem Hands of Steel, we are back into the slog of the Sci-Fi Invasion set. It turns out that movie was just a tease. I can only hope that I stumble across more movies like that, or better, along the way. There are still a lot of movies to go. The next movie to play is another Italian production, The War of the Robots. It is another goofy outing that makes little sense, but I guess it still has a little charm, albeit not much.

Movie Review: The Eyes Behind the Stars

This Sci-Fi Invasion box set challenge is getting tougher by the moment. Four movies in and I kind of want to claw my eyes out, or at least take a nap. It is times like this where my enjoyment of B-cinema is seriously tested. This movie is called The Eyes Behind the Stars and it is a really good cure for insomnia, taking a couple of attempts to make through to the end. My first attempt ended with about a half hour to go when I thought I blinked and found myself staring at the disk's main menu, wondering what happened.
