Movie Review: Noah (2014)

So, Noah has arrived and it can now stand, or attempt to stand, on its own merits. It is a movie that does not seem to have a precise target audience. It seems to be going after a cross section of the movie-going public. Action aficionados have something there, there are the disaster elements, the obvious religious connection, fans of Crowe/Connelly/Hopkins/Watson, and those who like the director, Darren Aronofsky. I have to be honest, my interest was sealed by Aronofsky. The guy makes interesting films that exist on the fringe of Hollywood. Movie Review: Winter's Tale

A few months back I saw a trailer for Winter's Tale. It was not something I had heard of before, but it did look interesting, a mash of supernatural, time travel, and romance. The romance is a type of movie that is really hard to do right. More often than not the style is relegated to simple platitudes and moronic characters who do not act even remotely human. This looked to be trying to do something different, I could not exactly tell what, but different enough to catch my eye. Still, I should have been wary because of two words, Akiva Goldsman. Movie Review: The Man with the Iron Fists

When I first heard that RZA was directing a kung fu movie, I have to admit to being simultaneously skeptical and intrigued. I certainly was interested, but it also sounded like one of those things that was just talk, especially upon learning of Eli Roth and Quentin Tarantino's involvement. I just chalked it up to friends getting together and talking about things they would like to do. I honestly never thought it was going to be made. I am glad to be proven wrong.
