Movie Review: A Quiet Place (2018)

It seems like every year has that one genre film that breaks out and gets on the hype train. In many cases, the hype is deserving. Even though hype has a way of leading to backlash, i have found the films to get the positive hype to be more than deserving. One thing that I am liking is that in recent year the films are retaining the quality and are skewing closer to mainstream success. I love the idea of more people discovering genre films and letting the sickness spread. In case you didn’t know, the movies I am referring to are It Follows, The Babadook, The Witch, Get Out, and now we have A Quiet Place. I make no secret that I love them all.

Movie Review: Edge of Tomorrow

I have to admit, when I first saw the trailer for Edge of Tomorrow, I did not think much of it. It looked like a mash of Oblivion and Battle: Los Angeles, with a touch of Groundhog's Day. It did not look like something that would deliver any high entertainment levels. Of course, it was a foregone conclusion that I would see it, it just isn't that sort of movie I am willing to completely write off. Then, as the release approached, positive word seemed to be coming from unexpected locations. Places I expected to see mediocre to poor reviews were giving it good notice. Interesting, maybe there is something to this after all.

Movie Review: Looper

I am going to give you a name. The name I am to give you is one out must commit to memory. It is not exactly important to remember for the purpose of this review, it is more for the quality of movies that he makes. The name is Rian Johnson. You may not know it yet, but he is a man to keep an eye on. He has now made three films and all of them take familiar ideas and turns them into something extraordinary. First was Brick, the high school drama told like a noir film. Second was The Brothers Bloom, a twist on the con man tale. Now there is Looper, a fascinating take on the time travel story.
