Movie Review: The Martian (2015)

The Martian has arrived to much fanfare. I have seen some refer to it as a return to form for Ridley Scott. I was going to disagree with that sentiment, but then I looked over his recent filmography, and in my book this is easily his second best film in the past decade. Surprisingly, I had not noticed how many merely decent films he has been making of late. It is a good thing this isn't about his past, it is about his present, which is pretty darn good. The Martian may not be the most exciting film he has made, but there is something quietly excellent about it. It is an entertaining film that features some fine action and covers a lot of ground.

Blu-ray Review: Cabin in the Woods

If you have not seen Cabin in the Woods, stop reading this, do not read anything about the movie and go see it. Hopefully I found you in time and you haven't already read too much. Don't worry, this will still be here when you get back. In all seriousness, this is one of those movies where the less you know about it, the better. After you see it, you are going to want to sit back down and watch it again. That is how I felt immediately upon leaving the theater and each of the times I have watched it on disk. It doesn't get old and never fails to entertain. Plus, once you know what is going on, you are free to look at the other details throughout the film.
